'12/'13 San Jose Sharks thread
Free agency has started, so we might as well get started here too.
Only move so far, was to sign Durish from MIN. This guy is here to solve our PK issues, he'd play a 1:30 on the DAL PK. He's full of fire & hustle, which is exactly what this team needs. I'm bummed to see Torrey Mitchell move on, but he was never the same after breaking his leg. Don't care about losing the other RFA's & UFA's...but I'm still pissed about the McGinn trade.
FA signings - I'd love to sign Suter, but that ain't happening. We aren't shelling out the dollars...but should for him. I doubt we're active at all in FA.
Trades - These have to be coming soon. My #1 dream would be for Bobby Ryan, but that's unlikely. Nash would be 2nd, but doubtful as well.
To be honest...I have no idea WTF Wilson is going to do. Still no word on coaching moves for the assistants. I don't know what's about to happen, but I've got to think a doozy is about to unfold.

Re:
"The Minnesota Wild have landed prized free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Sources told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun that both deals are worth $98 million over 13 years."
1) WOW
2) The remaining quality free agents are going to evaporate, and probably to the teams who were in the hunt for Suter & Parise
3) The trade market is about to explode, and Nash & Ryan's trade price just went up (again).

Re:
Even though I should have included the Stuart signing, I didn't because I'd like to forget it. We traded a draft pick & player for a guy who was days away from being a FA...and he openly said he wanted to come back to SJ, and it wouldn't be about the $$$. Unreal.
As for the hockey aspect of it...meh. It's a fine signing, but he's very inconsistent, defensively and offensively. I wasn't a fan when he was originally a Shark, so I'm definitely not one years later. We'll see.
What's interesting to me defensively, is to see if Murray, or maybe even Boyle...or both...are Sharks this season.

Re:
Well, it was just a 7th rounder, and the player they traded was Andrew Murray, someone they weren't going to re-sign anyway. It's a small price to pay to have exclusive negotiating rights if it's someone you really want. And with the way money is being thrown around, who knows how much could have been thrown at him if he had hit the open market. Whether it works out or not, we'll have to wait and see, like you said.
I'm wondering the same about Murray and Boyle. Especially Murray with Stuart coming aboard and the Sharks may need the cap space.
There isn't a whole lot left in free agency. I hope the Sharks take a run at Doan if the Coyotes can't straighten out their ownership issues and he decides to see what's out there.

That's a damn good point. Stuart is cheap compared to these insane contracts being dished out. I'd love to see a Doan or Arnott added (RH Wings with veteran leadership & toughness...perfect). Wouldn't mind seeing Wellwood come back, but he's a C.

Re: Re:
To be honest I wouldn't really be too sad to see Murray go.
Yeah hes a big bruising hitter but what else does he really offer us.
Hes slow and his d is par at best and has absolutely no offensive upside.
I hope they keep Boyle though.

Re:
The best news of the off-season just happened.
"The Sharks have hired Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson as an associate coach, bringing on board a veteran whose most recent time behind the bench was with the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup finals."
Interesting that he is an "associate", not an assistant. He's here to bring some fire, credibility, accountability, and to fix that God awful PK. Huge fan of this man, and am thrilled he's on our side now. Best move in years, for either players or coaches.
