Rules Discussion and General Chat Thread
Trying to get a head start on the season. If you have any proposed rule changes this season, please post them in this thread. If there are any, the group will vote on them and if accepted by a majority vote, will be included in this year's rules.

Re: 2008 Pick 4 Hits Rule Changes - are there any?
This was brought up by Linda P last year, but as we were in the middle of the season we didn't consider it. I think it has merit, and should be considered by the forum.
Player's that give themselves up for the good of the team, i.e. they sacrifice themselves to move another player up a base, should be rewarded with a point. Any thoughts?

I'm assuming that we will resume this vote in a couple of weeks for the regular season?

Re: 2008 Pick 4 Hits Rule Changes - are there any?
Today, a situation nearly occurred that is not covered by a rule. LindaP requested a default pick, and 9$ didn't see it. I saw it hadn't been added, and did so, but...
What if the game had started, and the pick wasn't made? Does LindaP not get a pick for the game... she did forsee her need, and requested a default.
This happened last year; I didn't see a request until I was scoring the game afterward. I reasoned that since it was a default pick, and the request was made in time, that it could be added after the game since default picks are last in the heirarchal scheme of pick assignments. I gave Linda her the score, announced that I had done so, and called for objections. There were none.
Sometimes, a person will ask a friend to post their pick, so they can get a specific ballplayer. What if the friend doesn't see the request, or does and forgets/ignores it? Originally, I believe the rules specified you were SOOL. It seems to have been dropped in the rules editing of the past, so what should we do if this occurs?
Is it fair that a default request can be added after the game (last year set the precedent for this) and a friend request that is missed isn't?
I propose to amend the rules to read that...
'in the event the scorekeeper misses placing a requested default pick, the scorekeeper can add a default pick for the missed request after the game has started/been completed, at the end of the list'
and...
'in the event a friend misses placing a request for a pick, the scorekeeper can add a default pick (counts as a chosen default pick, not an assigned default pick) for the missed request after the game has started/been completed, at the end of the list. In the event two or more such requests are missed, they are assigned at the end of the list in the order the original requests were made'.
By definition, a chosen default pick at the end of the list will always be the last pick to be assinged a ballplayer.
edit for wording.

I'm OK with either one of those rule changes. Especially the one where someone asked for "default".

"in the event the scorekeeper does not place a request for a default pick, the scorekeeper can add a default pick for the missed request after the game has started at the end of the list'
how about if a player makes a request for default picks to be made in their absence that the scorekeeper automatically moves that default pick to the end of the list since it doesn't matter where it goes, unless someone else makes a default selection as their pick

We have a player that always chooses default so the requested pick's placement in the list (which is normally found directly below the scorekeeper's pick) would impact the pick assignment.
