Mark Prior to the Padres...

This could either be an excellent signing or not a big loss.....1 mill is chump change these days...

From MLBtraderumors...

Prior Signs With Padres
Ah, some real news. ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Padres have reached an agreement with Mark Prior. It's a one-year deal with a low $1MM base. Olney says incentives could bring the total past $3MM, which is still a very reasonable gamble. Now Prior can rebuild his value in a great pitcher's park and re-enter free agency in a year.

Prior is throwing on flat ground currently, and there's talk of mid-May. I think three solid months out of Prior would be more realistic, though. The Padres' rotation will contain two ex-Cubs, Prior and Greg Maddux. With Jake Peavy, Chris Young, and Randy Wolf on board, the rotation is certainly impressive on paper.

I think this is a better move for Prior than it is for the Padres.

Prior has nothing to lose by pitching in Petco next year. Even if he's not 100%, he's got a better chance of posting a solid ERA. Then he can hit the FA Market and Sabes can give him that five year deal....

If we were a contender this year, I wouldn't be happy with this...but seeing as we are going to suck anyways, ehhh.

And that's a really shitty attitude to have, but I'd rather take some lumps this year and not sign anyone. No Clark, no Benson, no oldies...Play Teh Kids.

I don't really care about it at all either. As far as I'm concerned, this has no effect on the Giants whatsoever. It might shuffle the 1-4 in the NL West. But last is last.

Good move for both the Padres and Prior.

I don't think this'll affect the Giants much...but it could make the Padres more than a bit better.

I did say it last offseason as well, I didn't want Durham, Feliz, or Zito signed...felt we needed to take a year off and save some $$$, Play Teh Kids to see what's there, and then get into free agency this offseason or next.

I never thought the Zito signing would go so badly in Year 1, he has to improve this year...doesn't he? Not too optimistic on that front.

No signings please, Rowand was too much for my liking, but I do like him as a player, just worried about his #'s diivng in PBP.

Save Teh $$$, Play Teh Kids...actually, the days of Teh Kids (Foppert, JWill, Torry, Minor, Feliz) may be past us...Play Teh Little Fackers?
