Project your 2008 lineup

LF Roberts/Lewis
CF Rowand/Rajai
RF Winn/Scheirholtz
1B T Clark/Ortemier
2B Durham/Frandsen
3B Pedro Feliz/Frandsen
SS Omar
C Molina

A vet at every spot. I thought Rowand was fine if we traded Winn or Roberts, and let Ortmeire take 500 AB at 1B and Frandsen the same at 2B. But when you ad a 35 year old 20 homer 1B to displace a 25 year old who could also hit 20 HR for 1/20th of the salary, you are just stabbing at .500.

I think that is Sabean's goal this year, just get to .500. Even if it means putting off winning another year. He's acting like he would give up 90 wins in 2010 if he could just muster 80 wins in 08.

I think we missed the boat on Mike Lamb. He is my pick for underrated player of the offseason.

Bill Hall could still be a good pick up for 3B.

Please NO Tony Clark.

I would only want Hall if Winn or Roberts were in the deal, and Cain, Lincecum, Lowry were not.

Rumor is the Brewers are looking for a corner infielder. Winn would be a good addition to that team IMO.

Then again, it looks like if the Brewers trade for Rolen, then they will simply move Braun to LF and keep Hall in center.

Just sayin'

The only hope the Giants have of success is if they keep the rotation in tact. I'm not trading 1A or 1B, and I'm only trading Lowry for an impact bat, granted it would take a package that included Lowry.

The thing is Sabean has a knack, good or bad, to do something that nobody expected. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls some trade out of his a$$ that nobody expected or anticipated for a player(s) that nobody even thought about.

Still got a lot of time before pitchers and catchers report. In the meantime, anything can happen.

According to the Payroll thread we only have about 1.75 million to spend this season.

Trades are the only way we're getting anyone else.

Frandsen at 3B would be horrific...especially with this young rotation and the whole confidence thing. Frandsen at 2B or nothing else, but nothing else it is looking like because the Giants wont pay Durham to ride pine.

That's another reason why the Giants need to give the younger guys like Schierholtz, Lewis, Davis, Ortmeier and Frandsen a chance to play. Otherwise the team is going to run smack into the same old problems of not being able to afford the right free agent or to keep the guys they do have around long term.

Also, who's to say that Sabean won't be able to dump a little salary, hopefully Roberts, on another team. The White Sox seem to be getting more and more desperate for a center fielder. Although Sabean kind of shot himself in the foot by announcing that "Roberts really isn't a true center fielder" earlier this year. Way to go Meat!
