I love the blog more than ever. You guys are, by far, the fastest to report news and the most thorough in providing content. Keep reminding me to hit the ads, and I will keep hitting them. A year ago, I sent you a couple tips that turned out to be 100 percent correct. I have a much better one this year: "It is done", the Oakland Raiders will take L.S.U. quarterback Jamarcus Russell number one overall. Negotiations will start early. May as well just get it right now. My source attends U.S.C. and [has contacts within the program]. A big part of the Lane Kiffin/ Steve Sarkisian interview process included questions about why the Raiders did not select a talent like Matt Leinart in 2006. Reportedly, Al Davis had to explain his way out of that one for Lane Kiffin to listen. U.S.C. head coach Pete Carroll slipped up in the media explaining Kiffin loves Russell and going down the field with the ball. My source says it ran much deeper in the interviews: "Mr. Davis, sir, I'd love to take this job and coach Jamarcus Russell. I know how much you like to go down the field. So do I, but I want the best tools available and Russell has them." No kidding. [source] Also, from a recent interview with Pete Carroll: Carroll hinted at who he expects the Raiders to select with the first pick of the NFL Draft. He said that Kiffin prefers a vertical passing offense that suits LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell better than Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. "The kid from LSU is exactly what they're looking for," Carroll said, "more so than the kid from Notre Dame."nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jason86)Sun, 28 Jan 2007 01:06:01 +0000 Re: NFL #1 pick: Brady Quinn?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389985,from=rss#post389985https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389985,from=rss#post389985Speaking of David Klinger. What a bad ass he was at the University of Houston. A question to you, do you think Hawaii's Colt Brennan will be the next Klinger in the N.F.L. Great college QB, in a high octane system, that is a "dud" on Sunday's. I still have to do my research on Brennan, but I can see him being drafted way to early and not panning out like Klinger. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BaseballGuy33)Wed, 17 Jan 2007 20:07:41 +0000 NFL #1 pick: Brady Quinn?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389929,from=rss#post389929https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389929,from=rss#post389929sweet god, if Quinn goes #1, the world will end. He sucks. Bigtime. Brady Quinn couldnt hit the water if he fell out of a boat. P.S.-- dont remind me of Akili Smith, it makes me sick to my stomach. Dont remind me of David Klinger either. Or Ki-Jana Carter. =Pnondisclosed_email@example.com (ElGiganteofOH)Wed, 17 Jan 2007 12:21:13 +0000 NFL #1 pick: Brady Quinn?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389903,from=rss#post389903https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389903,from=rss#post389903Brute, I am by all means not a Raiders fan, and would never claim Silver and Black, but I have heard Russell's name floating around Da' Raiders headquarters already. They like his size, his arm strength and his potential. Personally, I don't think he would be a good fit, and I wouldn't gamble on him, based off of a great BCS showing. As for Quinn, he is the best of the bunch, but I wouldn't take him at #1 either. I really think the Raiders should trade down, try and get Johnson/Jarrett or stake up on multiple picks. As for Troy Smith, I forecast him having a similar career to Shaun King or Akili Smith. He has the speed and playmaking ability to be a good QB, but lacks the arm strength, and the pocket-passer mentality to survive in the NFL. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BaseballGuy33)Tue, 16 Jan 2007 20:14:25 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389860,from=rss#post389860https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389860,from=rss#post389860I hope they don't take Russell. I was high on Smith, but he definitely has taken a tumble. If the Raiders can take him in the 2nd round, however, that's a great value. I would not mind a good trade-down if one exists; this would be a good draft to trade down in. I do like Quinn, but Russell would probably be the worst possible #1 overall pick, and I hope they don't take him anywhere in the draft.nondisclosed_email@example.com (BruteSentiment)Tue, 16 Jan 2007 01:30:55 +0000 Re: NFL #1 pick: Brady Quinn?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389857,from=rss#post389857https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389857,from=rss#post389857I dont think Troy Smith will go down that far. I have also heard that they part with the #1 pick and try and get Calvin Johnson or Dwayne Jarrett at #3 or #4. The draft is 3 months away, players haven't started working out for teams, and the combine is weeks away. Alot could change, but this is the early scoop on the Hater Nation. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BaseballGuy33)Mon, 15 Jan 2007 18:37:51 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389739,from=rss#post389739https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389739,from=rss#post389739First round tackles are often disappointments, as bay area teams know (even later round picks like Kwame). No, take a talent position player in the first round. Tackle DEFINITELY needs to be addressed, but a 2nd or 3rd round pick is a good spot for that. However, first attempt at filling the Tackle hole should be free agency, assuming some are available.nondisclosed_email@example.com (BruteSentiment)Sat, 13 Jan 2007 22:11:43 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389728,from=rss#post389728https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389728,from=rss#post389728If they want Joe Thomas then they should trade down to 3rd or 4th because I don't think a team 2-4 would take Joe Thomas. Frankly I don't feel any of the QB's in this year's draft are #1 quality. With that said, the Raiders need a QB more than anything else.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cain43)Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:38:32 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389641,from=rss#post389641https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p389641,from=rss#post389641I think Al Davis will fall in love with the big arm of Jamarcus Russell and he'll be the #1 pick.
