Now only one big move away from being a post season contender
IMO the Zito piece of the puzzle, is important in that despite, the flawed roster, and questionable signings, the Giants are one big trade away from being a postseason contender.
So with that in mind I am checking MLB rosters to see what might be realistic.
Guys I'd be willing to move, for the right piece:
Vizquel, Hennessey, Sanchez, Correia, (obviously) Benitez.
You could add to that just about any minor leaguer not named Lincecum.
I'd love to trade Feliz, or Klesko, but I think newly signed FA can't be traded until June or something like that.
--- Travis Ishikawa is NOT a competent first baseman.

Re: …
Why not keep Lowry, trade Feliz, Klesko and Aurilia in July and let Frandsen play out the second half and 3B and Travis play at 1B?
I don't see what all the excitment about being a postseason contender is. It's not worth winning the NL West if you have no chance of winning it all. This isn't the Rays or Reds or Marlins where a post season berth is an accomplishment. If you can't win it all, plan for the future. Trade off all these vets for legit prospects to a REAL contender, and laugh all the way to the WS parade in '09 or '10.
Freshbreaker: I believe the date is June 15 for players signed in the offseason.

The Giants are one player away from a promising contender, but they're also played out.
Trading away a guy like Lowry, who is also an important piece to the puzzle, won't move them any closer. They could trade prospects, but, outside of Lincecum, they probably don't have enough to land anyone of note. And trading Lincecum is just stupid.

lincecum aint going nowhere.... sabean isnt the smartest GM in baseball but I dont think he is that stupid
they have a solid nucleus for a strong rotation for the next 6-8 years
Zito
Lowry
Cain
Sanchez
Lincecum
of course we probably wont see that rotation until '08 or '09
