Don't forget the offense or lack there of. This team is struggling to score runs in the thin air of AZ. It doesn't matter how well we pitch, if we can't score any runs.

one problem at a time!

The way to cure the offensive woes is to have Barry Zito take the mound when the Giants are up. Why not? They do that in softball, and that is pretty much what Zito throws up there these days.

I'd disagree with the premise of this whole thread.

Kruk would often refer to Marvin Benard as a gamer...he may not be from the 'DC' (I'm assuming you mean DR...Benard was from Nicaragua), but I think it applies.

I also think I remember Kruk calling Darren Lewis a gamer a bit, but my memory from those days is fuzzy.

Obviously never, ever would be a stretch...but more often than not, I hear it about guys like Woody, JT, Aurilia, etc. Whats the over/under on references to Rowand & Frandsen as gamers this year?

And teh premise fo this thread is what an incredibly stupid motto this is for a season, and it speaks volumes of where we're at...might as well say "We sure blow, but gol darn it, we try hard".

Kruk calls everyone a "gamer."
He calls little kids eating ice cream in the stands-- with their hats on backwards -- "gamers."
(even though it's just that their mom's spun the kids cap around so they won't bump into the food.)

But I do agree with this point that you indirectly and unintentionally raised:
The Giants probably adopted that slogan, because they think we love hearing Kruk referring to everyone as gamers.

Re: Teh Gamers

Baseball players named in the first 11 pages of a Google search of "gritty gamer baseball":

Hideki Irabu (eh?)
Mike Mussina
Greg Zaun
Aaron Rowand
Gorman Thomas
Chad Tracy
Jim Thome
Ryan Theriot
Craig Biggio
Pete Rose
David Eckstein
John McDonald

I must admit, I must modify the original thesis: many of these gritty gamers were also quite talented.

Also, check out the list of anti-gritty players:

link

Notice how the 10 least gritty seasons (by scientific ranking, of coure emoticon) were all produced by dark-skinned athletes.

Going by those rankings, I want the least gritty players on the Giants, I will take every last one of them. You want to win lose the grit.

I have an autographed Krukow baseball from back in my college days.

"To Lee, a real gamer."

Add me to the list of gamers, please.

Are you white and kind of shitty? (at baseball)
If so, then you are indeed a "Giants Gamer."

Re: Teh Gamers

it's good to have gritty players, but gritty players are considered gamers because they are still good players...that is where the disconnect is here. gritty/gamers would normally be average (not below average), and the extra hustle, work, and effort they put forward makes them star players.

lousy players trying really hard and still losing, well they are not gritty/gamers, they just suck. it's called feudalistic effort that does not get the job done. not everyone can be good, some people have to be the losers, and calling those losers "gamers" is the wrong use of the term.

clearly the marketing department fails to understand the situation here. perhapps they consider themselves gritty/gamers, but they just suck.

When I think gamer I think Len Dykstra and Joe Carter. I don't know why.
