I've never seen a fringe major leaguer get as much scrutiny as Frandsen.
Maybe they should draft Jemille Weeks this June? End all the nonsense at 2b once and for all.

It'll all be over as last year's draft pick Nick Noonan comes up the system, if Noonan does move permanently to second. Few people, even me, disagree about his talent.

That being said, I don't think Bhakkon was specifically referring to Frandsen as being embarrassingly poor. He was just making a general point concerning the unrealistic viability of increasing a really krappy players performance, with regular ML at bats.

Correct. Frandsen's 2007 performance was disappointing , but not embarrassingly bad.

I'd also like to point out that most players receiving spotty playing time are also being used as platoon pinch hitters and to spell starting position players in the baseball equivalent of garbage time (ie: against the opponent's #5 starter, or against middle relievers in a game that's all but decided). Both these serve to offset, or even trump, the negative effects of inconsistent play. Again, this is a general rule rather than a specific reference to Frandsen (who didn't have much of a platoon split to exploit).

Had one more AB produced a hit instead of an out, Fransden would now be batting .296 with about a .385 OBP and .790 OPS. He made 3 errors this spring at SS but none at 3B or 2B. With that one AB Hurd would be singing his praises.

Heck, I'm not sure Alonso will be there at #5 right now, especially with the early hitting tear he's on in college.

It should also be noted that it appears Brett Wallace is attempting the move to third, mostly to allow playing time at first for a teammate...but BA thinks it could stick.

Not that this is a thread about the draft.

Alonso is not on a tear. ASU's Jason Kipnis is on a tear.

Can't disagree there. I would want to see his numbers against teams other than New Mexico and UMass, though... emoticon

Too bad he's a sophomore and not draft eligible.

Maybe you didnt see his numbers against Vandy when he hit a dinger and a triple or Oregon St. when he hit one over the green monster in CF 450 ft or against Michigan when he hit 2 more dingers???? All those teams are in the top 10, or were when ASU played them

He is draft eligible. He redshirted back in Kentucky.
