It's hard to hit consistently in the majors when you don't play regularly. And when he did play regularly he hit .370 with a .906 OPS in September. That doesn't excuse his slump in late May-Early June, but it shouldn't be brushed off either, since that September was his most regular playing time in his major league career.
I'd take issues with that blog saying he's 'struggling to be an extra infielder.' He's struggling to be the starter, especially after training to improve his defense at second all offseason, and then getting moved to short with barely enough time to start taking grounders at the position. But few would dispute he'll be on the team even if he's not starting.
I still stand by my evaluation of him. I agree, his defense in particular has been very disappointing, but everything else I liked is still there. He's a very good hitter, and I wouldn't put much stock in the .227 line he has (as of this posting) in 22 at bats. If one more of those hits he's had falls in, he's at .272. He makes adjustments better than any hitter I've seen, whether it's at the start of a season/level, or after a slump (like last year).
He's no all-star, but if he's given a chance, he'll be a good second baseman for this team.
Under the Sabean regime, that is one thing the Giants are notorious for, jimmy jacking younger players around. They did it with Sanchez, Frandsen, Hennesey, and even Ortmeier to an extent. Keep them in one role/ position and see what they have got. That being said, I am still a little worried about Frandsen. Hopefully he can right the ship.

Re: Rick Hurd: Scouts take on Frandsen
I'm going to have to disagree with the whole "it's hard to hit in the majors if you don't play everyday" premise. Except for the elite of the elite, most prospects have to prove themselves as a backup with spotty PT before earning an everyday role. Only the most outstanding prospects (or the luckiest) get handed a job out of the chute.
That being said, Frandsen's 2007 performance, while unimpressive, should be good enough to crack into the starting middle infield on a 100 loss team.

109 games and 264 AB is fairly consistent and regular, IMO. It's not starting, but it's not like Frandsen was rotting on the bench like a 3rd catcher.

Not sure how that logic disproves that theory, considering that very few DO pull off the spotty playing time/great performance thing. And plenty of those, then quickly sink after that anyway.
But yeah, crackin' the bigs isn't easy, and lasting long enough to get regular playing time after that, (especially when slumping) isn't easy either. That's for sure.

Rick Hurd: Scouts take on Frandsen
Very few pull off an immediately outstanding performance, whether they're starting or coming off the bench. The point is, spotty PT isn't enough of an excuse to cover for an atrocious performance. It's one thing to say "he could play better with more ABs," it's another to say "he's going to go from embarrassingly poor to quality starter with consistent ABs."

well, yes, I agree with that for sure. Thanks for clarifying.
And may I add:
As Linden painfully proved, "he's going to go from quality starter in the Minors to embarrassingly poor with consistent ABs in the Majors".

Wow...the status for 'embarrassingly' poor has gone up, if being the best hitter on the team for the final six weeks of the season is enough to be described that poorly.
It only happens when the team, that the "best hitter" plays for"-- is embarrassingly poor.
And I am unsure if you were referring to Hurd's commentary or Bhaakons comment-- or both.
That being said, I don't think Bhakkon was specifically referring to Frandsen as being embarrassingly poor. He was just making a general point concerning the unrealistic viability of increasing a really krappy players performance, with regular ML at bats.
As previously stated- Think of it as the "Linden Law of ML at bat algebra"..
(ToadLinden/Minorleaguehero x many ML at bats = zero.)

Re: Rick Hurd: Scouts take on Frandsen
I've never seen a fringe major leaguer get as much scrutiny as Frandsen.
Maybe they should draft Jemille Weeks this June? End all the nonsense at 2b once and for all.
