Inge
The reason is because after two years, the Tigers would be out from under their contracts, while the Giants would have to have all three years play out to be rid of Inge. Not all that difficult, if you wanna be condescending about it.

I need to understand how it would be easier to trade Inge before getting Cabrera.

How does contract swaps of 2 years of Roberts +1 year of Durham or Aurilia not equal 3 years of Inge? By my math 2+1 = 3 always. Why would you not prefer just Inge instead of both Roberts and Durham or Aurilia? Does not just Inge free up one more roster spot to give another youngster a chance with?
That's kinda funny math there. taking a look at my trusty calendar, is see that 2008, 2009 and 2010 is longer than 2008 and 2009. but maybe I'm just a little wacky.

Inge
but the giants would also open up a roster spot in the outfield for one of the young guys.

Re: Inge
I'm sure there's some reason why it's a terrible idea, but why not just let Frandsen play 3rd since we're stuck with Ray at 2nd? I think Frandsen would flourish with a heavier workload. Like starting everyday.

I agree with that. People complain about his defense, but is it really going to make a difference next year? It should be about getting ABs pure and simple.
And of course there is the fact that no matter who the Giants acquire or plug into 3B, they will be a defensive downgrade from Feliz.

It's smelling more and more like Sabean isn't going to do too much. I had an expectation that he would pull off some trades but as time goes on it seems more likely he isn't or can't. There still is a glaring hole in the #3 and #4 spots in the lineup. Sure Frandsen can play 3B but who the heck is going to bat #3 or #4? Durham? Winn? That is what I see is the biggest problem and I'm not sure how I feel about signing guys like Sweeney or Clark but I can see why Sabean would be tempted to do so when the team has no alternatives. As things stand, the lineup looks ugly regardless of who plays third base, Feliz or Frandsen.
Just sayin'

Inge has a documented 95-mph fastball. Maybe he can be your closer.
