Wouldn't that be theft?

It's reserved for subscribers, isn't it?

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

They probably don't say anything that you won't pick up from reading the message boards for a few weeks.

The list is nice. I have some quibbles (I don't think Velez should be that high, and I do have a different number 1), but I don't think it's wildly out of order.

I agree on Velez but I don't know how you can't have Villalona at the top. Yes, he's only 17 but he's got huge upside and was productive. Better rates than Miguel Cabrera at the same age. I'm guessing you have Alderson #1? I think he's a stud too.

I won't spoil anything (My Top 50 list starts being posted on Jan. 2nd, if all goes well).

However, with Villalona, a lot is that he had a few indicators in his first pro season that make me wonder if he's not going to reach his ceiling.

• He was visibly and vocally upset at not being assigned to S-K, but did nothing to show that he should have.
• He had several run-ins with umpires.
• While he's understandably aggressive on swinging at breaking balls, he was still aggressive at swinging at them (compare with Noonan, who is a little over a year older, but has a much more advanced approach already).
• He's already being looked at moved away from the much needed and valuable third base spot.
• He's already having conditioning concerns.

All that, and his performance at the AZL was solid, but by no means overwhelming, nor did he respond well to the eventual promotion.

Now, he's already showing a lot of improvement in some areas, particularly his plate approach and conditioning in his first year, but while some see his young age and distance from the majors as more time to improve, I see it as more time in which he can get offtrack.

All strong concerns Brute but again, Villalona is still just a kid. I think the points you bring up just show that the kid is still at least two or three years away.

Let's see how he does in S-K this year or if they send him to Augusta.

Just sayin'

Oh, by no means am I saying that he's not a good prospect at all.

Those concerns are just why he's not my #1.

I can see what you are saying. Hopefully with Sabean re-structuring of the organization, within the next couple of years the Giants will get a bunch more "top" prospects. Personally, I'm really excited about Noonan and Alderson. I think these two guys might make an impact in the future.

Just sayin'

When I saw Villalona early in the AZL he looked lazy on defense, and I think that was the reason he had problems with errors. That could be an attitude thing that Brute was mentioning.

The plus with his AZL experience last year was that he improved dramatically in the last few weeks he was there. That was one thing that the Giants said they liked so much about him. At age 16 they had already seen him struggle, adjust, and succeed, and it looked like he did that again last year.

Maybe we should team Villalona and Feliz up together. Feliz can teach Defense and Angel can teach Pedro how to hit!

I predicted Velez to be in Baseball America's Top 10 because all that buzz he generated in the Fall League. Everyone was talking about him. And I have to say his bat was very impressive but his D still remains a big ? mark for me... I would say Brute's numero uno is Nate.
