6/10/2014 Nationals @ GIANTS Gameball and Joker

The Giants lost consecutive games for the first time in three-and-a-half weeks.
The Nationals beat them 2-1. The Giants felll to 42-23, and their lead over the Dodgers shrunk to seven-and-a-half games, or as ESPN would say, "THE DODGERS ARE GOING TO GO ON ANOTHER 42-8 RUN!!!!!!"

GAMEBALL:

Pablo

Pablo went quiet over the last few days, and then he went 3-for-3 tonight.
He also drew a walk after showing tremendous patience—something we're not used to from Pablo—in the eighth inning. He wasn't anxious at all. He just sat there patiently and took the pitched that Tyler Clippard try to nibble with.
Despite his rough first half, Sandoval has shown the best patience of his career this year.

TIP OF THE CAP: emoticon

Mad Bum: Bumgarner got Cained tonight. He threw seven strong innings, but Doug Fister was too good for the Giants' offense.
CAINED: verb, which means to get pitch a great game only to lose due to a lack of offensive support.

Angel Pagan: Pagan made a great catch in the seventh inning. He originally had a beat on the ball, but the Candlestick-like win took the ball to the track, and Pagan was somehow able to make an over-the-shoulder catch.

Brandon Crawford: Crawford collected a pair of hits tonight, and he tripled and scored in the ninth.

Nationals: The Giants didn't play horribly tonight, they just played a good team for the first time in several weeks.
Stephen Strasburg and Fister dominated, and the Nationals have an outstanding bullpen. When Bryce Harper returns, look out, because the Nationals are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

JOKER:

Gregor Blanco

Blanco got thrown out trying to take third on a wild pitch last night, and then he followed that up with an 0-for-4 performance tonight.
I don't think many people will be too sad if he rides the the pine tomorrow night.

SMACK OF THE STICK: emoticon

Phil Cuzzi: I guess he still hates the Giants, because I have no clue how he missed the call on the footrace between Bumgarner and Wilson Ramos.
Fortunately, we have replay this season, and the call got overturned.

Expanded Replay: I just commended replay for overturning Cuzzi's atrocious call in the sixth, but the they still blew it when Pagan reached first safely on his infield hit in the third.
Here's the thing, no matter how obvious the calls are, the umpires in New York are only going to overturn calls if they're missed by two or three feet. If calls close but obviously missed, they're not going to overturn them.
