6/6/2014 Mets @ GIANTS Gameball and Joker

The mighty Giants have won again.
They beat the Mets 4-2, and they came back to do it. It is worth noting that the Giants didn't win their 40th game last year until July 6, and with tonight's win, they have tied their best mark through 61 games in San Francisco, a mark that the 1962 Giants set. Their lead over the Dodgers is still eight-and-a-half games.

GAMEBALL:

Buster Posey

First off, I'm surprised that the Whiteside goatee has been good mojo for Posey, but if he's hitting, keep it.
Posey's finally breaking out of his slump, as he got three hits tonight, including the big one, a two run shot to left-centerfield that erupted AT&T Park and gave the Giants the lead.

TIP OF THE CAP: emoticon

Matt Cain: It was a tough decision on who to give the gameball to tonight, because Cain was great. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and because of the home run he gave up to Daniel Murphy in the seventh, he got yet another no-decision.
Here's a fun fact, tonight was Cain's 89th career no-decision. His career record is 94-91.

Brandon Crawford: Crawford got the Giants on the board with a sacrifice fly to score Brandon Hicks in the fifth, and then he tied it with a base-hit up the middle with two outs in the seventh.
Once again, the Giants got the big hit with two outs and a runner in scoring position. That is definitely their forte this year.

Sergio Romo: Romo seems to be getting back into the groove of things, as he set the Mets down 1-2-3 for his league-leading 19th save.

It has been 11 years, but we have finally found something remotely close to Ruben Rivera's gaffe that even made Felipe Alou shake his head.
The Orioles were tied with the A's 3-3 in the bottom of thew 10th inning, and they had runners at second and third with two outs. For a reason I'll never know, Cruz—the final out of the 2010 World Series, and a player suspended in the Biogenesis Scandal—tried to steal home, and like Rivera was thrown out by a mile at the plate.
Well, the A's won that game in 11 innings, and I don't want to be anywhere near Buck Showalter right now, because he's probably still blowing gaskets right now.
Oh, and just for kicks, here's Ruben Rivera.

SMACK OF THE STICK: emoticon

Baseball fans: Speaking of Biogenesis, Cruz and our old pal, Melky Cabrera—yes, we all fondly remember the nauseating "melk men" hats—are leading their positions in the All-Star Game balloting.
I know people are going to hammer me for this, because Giants fans defended Bonds to no end. However, I was one of the rare Giants fans who didn't want Bonds to break the record, so this is fair game for me.

Biogenesis guys: Cruz and Cabrera are leading their positions in votes, because they're both having monstrous seasons. Cruz leads all of Baseball in home runs and RBIs, and he is having a career year at the age of 33 coming off his suspension, Melky is putting up the same numbers he put up in 2012, and Melky's on pace for a career-high in home runs.
It gets better though. Guess who else is having a great year, Ryan Braun. Braun, like Cruz served a suspension at the end of last season, and just like Cruz and Melky, Braun is tearing up the league this season.
I'm sorry, but when three guys who have served suspensions for drug violations in the last two years are putting up numbers like these, there is definitely going to be suspicion that they're still doping.

Hey zebra,

With the changes on the MLB board, I've decided to go elsewhere to post. Thought I'd see if this place could be revived, and have been posting content in the general section over the last couple days to see if I could promote any interest.

I don't know if anyone will find or follow me here, but I'm going to give it a shot.

I had a feeling that was you. Welcome aboard! emoticon

I truly don't get why everyone there hasn't come here yet, especially now after the new atrocious format. Everything is so much better here. The disagreements here are civil and don't involve insults, and the rare trolls that show up are escorted to the door in a matter of seconds.

Feels like I haven't seen you around in a long time. Hope all's going well.

Hey zebra,

I think part of the issue is that this place went dead, and folks just quit checking.

I'll continue to load the Clubhouse page with [sign in to see URL], we'll start getting some traffic and bites. The good thing is that, should the word get out, we should be able to rebuild.

One thing that HAS to get done is a refresh of the images on the home page. Chad Gaudin? Really? And a focus on Curious George, rather than Piggy Boy? I think that stuff on the front page gives the casual visitor the idea that the site isn't [sign in to see URL] it's been deserted.

I agree with your take on the freedom here, which is why I came here.
