5/26/2014 Cubs @ GIANTS Gameball and Joker

The Cubs continued their AT&T Park dominance with an 8-4 win over the Giants today.
The Giants struck early, but the Cubs had other plans, as they came back to score three runs in the fifth inning, and then they opened it up later on.

Congratulations to Samardzija on his first win since Aug. 24, of last year in San Diego.
He has been the hard-luck pitcher in Baseball so far this season, and he has had the ERA lead, despite not getting his first win until today.
Samardzija struck out 10 over seven innings, while giving up only three earned runs. He also got a big hit for his team, a double to knock in Schierholtz to tie the game in the fifth.
As Krukow perfectly-said today, getting Samardzija his first win was the playoffs for the Cubs, so he's definitely someone who is going to be great trade bait in a couple of months.

TIP OF THE CAP: emoticon

Pablo: I'm enjoying another serving of delicious, medium rare crow right now.
He got two hits, the first was a single that gave the Giants the lead in the first, and then the second was a two-run home run that gave the lead back to the Giants in the fourth.

Nate: He had not hit a single home run this season, but of course he hit one against his former team.

Men and Women in the Service: I have only one wish on this Memorial Day, and that is to give the men and women, who have gone directly into the pit of danger and have sacrificed their lives so that we can be safe free healthcare for the rest of their lives.
A lot of these brave, young people are killed, or come home severely injured, and the ones that aren't hurt generally suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Often times, the injured vets are paraded at ballgames, and then they are basically told to get lost when they need medical care, same for the vets who suffer from PTSD. Right now, there is a big scandal going on in Phoenix about secret waiting lists, and it is absolutely sickening that these young kids aren't given the care that they deserve.
Again, I thank and salute everyone in the service, including a handful of friends who are going into the military, and I wish them all the best of luck through life.

Yusmeiro Petit

Petit still can't find the mojo he had last season. He pitched well through the first four innings, and then he completely unraveled in the fifth and gave up three runs.
I really hope he doesn't go up against Michael Wacha on Saturday.

David Huff: Who came in for Petit, and he got lit up as well. The Cubs tagged him for a pair of runs in the sixth, and then they tagged him for two more in the seventh.

Hockey-style masks: I have ranted about this for a very long time, and I really hope that the league eventually bans them.
We all saw what happened to Mike Matheny, and Hector Sanchez took another shot of his hockey mask today. Just like every other time a catcher with that kind of mask gets dinged, Sanchez needed three minutes to shake the cobwebs out of his head. When catchers wear the traditional-style mask, it just spins around, and almost always, the catcher doesn't feel an impact.
