Re: 2014 signings...

It is a good start.
By my calculations (and they are
never wrong), assuming the Giants re-sign Javier Lopez at $6M/per and fill the bench and relief pitching with in-house options the Giants' 2014 payroll will be near their 2013 level ($137M). This calculation does not account for a starting LF and two spots for the starting rotation. Even if the Giants upped it to $160M, it looks like they could sign either a very good LF, or one very good SP. I think a trade or two will be in order this offseason.

This is how I have the projected roster:

Starting Pitching
Cain
MadBum
SP #3
Timmy
Vogey (Decline option, pay .3M and re-sign at 1 year at $3-4M)

Relief Pitching
Affeldt
Casilla
Lopez (Re-sign at $5-6M/per)
Romo
Hembree
Petit/Gaudin (SP insurance; or go with both and keep Rosario on the 40 man)
Rosario (non-tender Mijares)

Starters
Pagan
Scutaro
Belt
Posey
Pence
Pablo
LF
Crawford

Bench
Blanco
Arias
Hector
Abreu/Pill
Peguero/Perez

What say you?

This board is dead, and has been for most of the season. That's why no thread before you created one ...

Edit: as proof, as I write this, the oldest thread on page 1 is from 6/21/2013. Embarrassing.

It is. Where is everyone? We need to get more action here!

About the signings. I would sign Vogelsong to a 2-3 million dollar-deal, and have him compete with Gaudin for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Of course we'll try to sign an outfielder, but we should really be looking at infielders too. We don't know what Pablo will look like in February, Scutaro is going to 38 in just a few days, and his back problems really concern me. Trading Pablo to Tampa for Price since they will likely unload him would not be a bad move IMO. Pablo would be a perfect DH for them.

I have not been a reg here in years, but I post at sportshoopla now. Marco does as well.

It is obviously slow now, but the core group is pretty solid.

Twitter is also a very good place for Giants talk. We have somewhat of a family over there. #SFGFamily is what we use.
