The decreasing velocity, combined with the shrinking difference between his changeup and his FB only exacerbate the real issue... like you said, he's never had very good command. You can get away with it when your stuff is filthy, but when your velocity starts to drop, what would be swings & misses up in the zone turn into !@#$ crushed in the stands. His motion is so complicated and obtuse that no one can fix him but him (and possibly his dad?)... so good luck on making that transition from thrower to finesse pitcher...

Of course, I could totally be wrong, and frankly I hope I am. Not for the Giants though, because he's just stunk it up too many times, and when he's great, he's great, but when he's bad, he's BAD. Can you imagine Cain or MadBum having a year as god-awful as Timmy?

I've never seen anything like the meteoric rise -- and spectacular fall. 2 time CY winner to statistically the worst pitcher in the league in a span of only 2 years.

Hey Fug, you could say since 2010. That's when his velocity started to dip. He did have a bounce back 2011 season after gaining some, but was awful after losing all of it prior to last season.

And I completely agree. Knowing Sabean, if Lincecum has a decent season with an ERA in the 3s, I could totally see Sabean signing him for 3 or 4 years.

I will take a bad Lincecum if the end result is him dominating in the playoffs in 2013 and leading the Giants to Championsip #3 in SF.

Sabean is not giving him a $100 million dollar contract even if he bounces back this year . He is too unpredicatable at this point. That ship has sailed as the GM likes to quote from time to time. However, as long as he is a Giant (and probably for the rest of his career given what he has done for the organization), I will be cheering him on.

Oh god I hope you're right.

As for taking him if he wins in the playoffs... we have to MAKE the playoffs, and having one of the worst starting pitchers in the MLB on your roster isn't exactly a winning formula. Still, we mostly agree. If he can be what I consider an average pitcher (sub 4.5 ERA, rational SO/BB ratio), I'm all for keeping him the whole year.

But if he gets hot, SELL HIGH!!!!!

2 runs, 6 hits 9 K's, 7 innings.

yet, a loss.

Too bad the offense couldn't help him out a bit-- Afterall it was Cy Cashner on the mound.

Frustrating

But at least the Dubs stole another one
( in the Pro Thugball league)

Re: Timmy's career is over

Let's all just show a little more patience.

The same things were being said in the past about Ray Sadecki and Sam McDowell ........

But I'll stick with Timmy a bit longer and
just hope that his interests dont conflict with mine.

Stats against the Dbags...

5 IP, 10 Hits, 5 ER.

That's a 9 ERA and a 2.0 WHIP. OUCH. Too bad he can't face the Padres every time out.

Yep...he's still awful. So that's about 19 months of awful sprinkled with some encouraging starts here and there.

I say we give him another 4 years and see if he can figure out how to stop getting beaten like a redheaded stepchild at Ike Turner's house.

Another Timmy start, another terrible outing. The only reason he looks halfway decent whilst grabbing his ankles and doing his best 6th starter impression is the strikeouts. Just awful.

And listening to Kruk during every outing regurgitate a variation of "He was absolutely dominating if you take out that 6-run inning!" is a complete and total exercise in nauseating homerism to the nth degree.
