Look at the big-salary guys on the DL for the top 15 or so teams. The Yankers are prominent because : 1) they spend more than everyone (no surprise there) 2) Not one of the top 4-paid guys on the DL are pitchers! Most other teams in the top 15 their top-paid guy on the DL is a pitcher. And if the top guy *isn't* a pitcher, it's the second one. And often it's two of the 4 highest paid. So ... don't tie up lots of money in older, FA pitchers. Grow them yourself.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Wed, 15 May 2013 12:27:59 +0000 Re: Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589761,from=rss#post589761https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589761,from=rss#post589761Tick Tock Tick Tock says the dud-gers wasted payroll clocknondisclosed_email@example.com (Nine Buck)Tue, 14 May 2013 19:17:41 +0000 Re: Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589752,from=rss#post589752https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589752,from=rss#post589752quote:ram9198 wrote: hrrumph... j/k, fug...1 game does not constitute a comeback. As for taking him if he wins in the playoffs... we have to MAKE the playoffs, and having one of the worst starting pitchers in the MLB on your roster isn't exactly a winning formula. Still, we mostly agree. If he can be what I consider an average pitcher (sub 4.5 ERA, rational SO/BB ratio), I'm all for keeping him the whole year. That's when his velocity started to dip. He did have a bounce back 2011 season after gaining some, but was awful after losing all of it prior to last season. And I completely agree. Knowing Sabean, if Lincecum has a decent season with an ERA in the 3s, I could totally see Sabean signing him for 3 or 4 years. nondisclosed_email@example.com (sfg13)Mon, 22 Apr 2013 22:43:40 +0000 Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589641,from=rss#post589641https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589641,from=rss#post589641No http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/58069/whats-wrong-with-tim-lincecum The decreasing velocity, combined with the shrinking difference between his changeup and his FB only exacerbate the real issue... like you said, he's never had very good command. You can get away with it when your stuff is filthy, but when your velocity starts to drop, what would be swings & misses up in the zone turn into shit crushed in the stands. His motion is so complicated and obtuse that no one can fix him but him (and possibly his dad?)... so good luck on making that transition from thrower to finesse pitcher... Of course, I could totally be wrong, and frankly I hope I am. Not for the Giants though, because he's just stunk it up too many times, and when he's great, he's great, but when he's bad, he's BAD. Can you imagine Cain or MadBum having a year as god-awful as Timmy? I've never seen anything like the meteoric rise -- and spectacular fall. 2 time CY winner to statistically the worst pitcher in the league in a span of only 2 years.nondisclosed_email@example.com (fuqthebums)Mon, 22 Apr 2013 22:27:13 +0000 Re: Timmy's career is overhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589640,from=rss#post589640https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p589640,from=rss#post589640Tim won his CY's having the same velocity fastball and same splitter as he has now. When a guy has SUCKED for over a year, combined with decreased velocity and increased walk rate over the past 4 years, added to the fact that most scouts said his frame wouldn't hold up over time (and seem to be right in retrospect)... well, the results speak for themselves. Timmy was THE WORST starting pitcher in the NL last year. Hell, not even Zito ever accomplished that level of insane sucktitude. Could he rebound at some point in his career? Sure. Do I hope it happens this year, with the Giants? Only if it's before the ASB and Sabes trades him to a contender in the AL. My biggest fear for the Gs is that Timmy will show modest signs of improvement this year and Sabes will give him a sweatheart deal around 4yrs/100M. I loved what he did for us in the past, but that's the past.
