I'm humbled...WRONG!!!!!!

I've been wondering when someone is going to inform the dolts who write the press releases for athletes and sports front office types that the word they're looking for is HONORED, NOT HUMBLED.

Correct use of the word "humbled"...

"We were thoroughly beaten. We were humbled. I just hope the team takes this experience and turns it into something positive."

Correct use of the word "honored"...

"I'm honored to have won the Cy Young award. This honor is something to be shared with my manager, coaches, and teammates. Without their contributions and efforts, I wouldn't be standing here."

Now, swap the words humbled and honored in those two sentences. They are NOT interchangable.

I believe there's a little book of phrases somewhere that all these folks are using. I can't think of another reason why so many people, some with college educations, continue to use this word in a completely inappropriate context.

I know it's knit-picky, but the misuse of such a simple word is embarrassing to listen to.
