Junior Seau is dead

The celebrity-news website TMZ is reporting that former NFL star Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside and that the police suspect suicide.

The site says Seau, 43, is dead of a gunshot wound.

A 10-time All-Pro, Seau, 43, played for the Chargers, the Dolphins and the Patriots. He played college football at the University of Southern California.

Seau is the ninth member of the Chargers' 1995 Super Bowl team to die. The 49ers beat San Diego 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX, the Chargers' only Super Bowl appearance.

In October 2010, Seau was hospitalized after driving his SUV off a Carlsbad cliff several hours after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

He left football briefly in August 2006 after 13 seasons with San Diego and three with Miami. He signed with the New England Patriots four days later, played two seasons, retired again, then came out of retirement for the final four games in 2008. In 2009, Seau played seven regular-season games.
