'11/'12 San Jose Sharks thread

With camp about to begin, and the season is just over a month [sign in to see URL]'s time to start focusing on the journey to the Stanley Cup.

Major additions - Burns (D), Vandermeer (D), C. White (D), Havlat (W), Handzus (C),

Major subtractions - Heatley (W), Setoguchi (C), I. White (D)

I've been a huge fan of every single move. The upgrades at D to a more physical presence is exactly what we needed. Very excited to see how Burns fits in here. Havlat's speed & two-way play over Heatley's pure goal scoring is a plus. Handzus as the 3rd or 4th line C, sweet. All the kids get to battle it out for the 4th line, and the cream should rise to the top.

Keys to this season (IMO) -

How is Pavelski used (hoping as a LW whose sole job is to get open)?
How does Couture continue to develop?
How does this new D gel, and how does Pickles adjust/fit in?
What moves to do we make at the deadline to get over the top (A right handed pure scorer)?
The 4th line. Who are they, and can we create that hard hitting, fast, and pesky 4th line that is vital too a deep playoff run?

Good read on the moves, and upcoming season

I'm so happy hockey is almost here, but make no bones about this season. We've been to two Conference Finals, and come up short. It's time to advance, and bring home the Cup. This team is deserving of these expectations, they are that good (especially after the changes), and now it's time to get it done.

Go Sharks!!!

Sharks win their 1st two preseason games 6-1, 5-1 over the (dirty) Anaheim Ducks.
In yesterday's win over Anaheim in SJ-- 3 PP goals for SJ, 1 for Ana; SJ had 3 penalties, Ana had 10; Ana didn't come out on time for the 2nd period and got assessed a Delay of Game penalty.

49 shots for SJ, 14 for Anaheim

Some changes to the Shark Tank:
No more aluminum stanchions to hold the plexiglass in place, they are clear plastic.
Curved plexiglass in the areas near the player benches, to avoid the type of hit Chara made on Max Pacioretty last spring.
The boards are more lively this season, compared to last. Nothing like Detroit but they were noticeably more 'active' on puck rebounds.
The Red 'dasher' board last year is black this year.

Additions:
Defense - Jim Vandemeer
Defense - Brent Burns
Forward - Martin Havlat
Forward - Michal Handzus
Defense - Colin White

Subtractions:
Forward - Heatley - traded
Forward - Setoguchi - traded
Defense - Niclas Wallin
Forward - Scott Nichol (FA)
Forward - Kyle Wellwood (FA)
Forward - Ian White (FA)

I might find myself in Toronto soon after the season starts, and would probably be able to arrange things so as to be there when the Leafs happen to have a home game. Has anyone seen a game at their "new" place?

I can no longer tolerate the domination of a Shark-infested playoff match-up with Detroit. Prepare for Wing-Attack Plan R come April, 2012.

Dominant first game of the season and we don't even have havlat yet LOL

Last nights game vs. ANA was ugly as [sign in to see URL] I've seen two things that concern me so far this year. Obviously #1 is the PK, but #2 is Marleau. He hasn't looked good in either game. Know it's early, but still worrisome. Seeing a lack of speed, hustle, and hands. Let's hope it's just rust, and I'm 95% sure that's all it is.

Burns tries to do too much by himself, but for the first few games, after playing on such a sh!tty MIN [sign in to see URL].
