I hope Huff comes around, but might not be quite as confident at ram. They might have to get a catcher. Even ram's defense-first strategy seems to call for another catcher.nondisclosed_email@example.com (lldoyle)Thu, 07 Jul 2011 18:00:50 +0000 Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p580117,from=rss#post580117https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p580117,from=rss#post580117I'd rather get better defensively-hitting is overrated. Give me the 1-0 games. Don't trade any pitchers. Fast Freddy will be back by mid-August. I like Crawford at SS vs RHP. Find a slick fielding RHH platoon for him off the scrap heap. Panda is back and he is hitting a ton. Huff will heat up. Torres needs to get back to last year. Giants will be fine. They may not have enough to go all the way again but Posey-Panda-Belt-Crawford and the pitchers give them a team that will be right there every year. Did I mention how much I like Crawford?  nondisclosed_email@example.com (ram9198)Thu, 07 Jul 2011 12:14:10 +0000 Re: Okay mules...thoughts?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579622,from=rss#post579622https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579622,from=rss#post579622quote:lldoyle wrote: From this AM's Chronicle: "The Giants have swept four three-game series this season without scoring more than 10 runs in any of them." Ram, jdb and stretch, remember the mid-1960s when we were kids and we envied the no-hit, all-pitch Dodgers who kept just barely beating out the Giants to go to the World Series? We've become them. But those Dodgers weren't playing in 2011 with interleague games and WS games played with DHs in AL ballparks. This team probably would have been swept had this past series been in Cleveland, because the Indians would have added their best hitter as a DH and SF would have added a guy who isn't much of an upgrade over MadBum (except for the ability to recognize the squeeze sign). Think of the series at Oakland and you've probably got a preview of the upcoming series at Detroit. I think they could use three bats but they have to get one. The issue becomes which one to get (middle inf, C) and what they give up. But in answer to stretch's original question, sure, I think they can make postseason and take their chances on another run despite the two losses (FSanchez, BPosey) we all thought would bury them if they happened. [Of course, if Zito gets clobbered in his first start back and a hitless SF team gets swept in Chicago, there will be a very different vibe around here as they head to Motown. It's a big upcoming week for perceptions.] Doyle, I LOVE your 60's Dodgers analogy...it is spot on...and we proved it in the playoffs last year, mowing down vaunted offenses in Texas and Philly. I don't think there is a reason to truly panic because our core nucleus of players are young and talented. Yes we need a bat, but at what expense? How nails would it be to see Giants mgmt nut up and sign Reyes at the end of the season to be our spark plug at the top of the order as a thank you for all the Giants fans putting butts in seats and buying loads of WS merchandise? A guy could dream....nondisclosed_email@example.com (dredinis21)Mon, 27 Jun 2011 23:24:37 +0000 Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579621,from=rss#post579621https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579621,from=rss#post579621Stretch, I'm gonna tell you....I am not above trading for some pieces that makes sense, not just for this year but for years to come. What I don't want to see is an Accardo for Shea trade...where we trade a young up and comer for a never was. These have been the kind of knee-jerk reaction trades that Sabean has been known for over the last few years (except last season) which is why I bring it up. But honestly, I would love to see them ride this baby out. Belt will be off the DL soon, we have Crawford that we are currently taking for a test drive, we signed Hall off the scrap heap and is starting to get more and more playing time, and Panda is starting to turn singles into doubles as he gets used to being back into the lineup. I think we have enough pitching to finish up the division by mid August with what we have right now. If there is a trade out there that makes sense and keeps our pitching intact, we should definitely look into it though. nondisclosed_email@example.com (dredinis21)Mon, 27 Jun 2011 23:17:59 +0000 Re: Okay mules...thoughts?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579549,from=rss#post579549https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579549,from=rss#post579549Some of you might recall that Stretch initiated a similar thread about a year ago. SF is probably already following that plan, and I sort of hope they stay the course as long as they can (the trading deadline is barely more than a month away).nondisclosed_email@example.com (lldoyle)Fri, 24 Jun 2011 07:14:18 +0000 Re: Re:https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579388,from=rss#post579388https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p579388,from=rss#post579388quote:sayheykid1 wrote: Trade for some bats but don't give up Wheeler or a current starter.
