Re: Your First Place San Francisco Giants

From something called 619sports.net, in a story posted today about how the Padres' hopes are sinking fast:

"On August 26th, Baseball Prospectus’ playoff odds had the Padres with a 97.2% chance of making the playoffs. They held a 6 1/2 game lead over the Giants on that day, playing Arizona at home with a chance to go seven games clear of the NL West. Instead, the Padres lost, and then dropped the next nine games in a row.

Now, their playoff odds stand at 19.1% and dropping fast."

With everyone else in the division mathematically eliminated, I assume this means the Giants are at 80.9% right now. I am very proud to say that on the day (or the day before) the odds went to 97.2 for SD, my son (on some offshore site) loaded up on the Giants at 9 to 1. He did not consult me (and never does with regard to sports betting).

So the Padres are just 9.4 now? Gotta like that, though their prior perch at 97+ might give us pause when it comes to celebrating the numbers.

Sorry to keep harping on this, but over their last 32 games, SD is now

5-1 against LA
6-20 against everyone else

Actually, I'm not sorry. I'm enjoying the repetitive nature of this. You can take out the 10 game losing streak and they're still 6-10 against non-LA teams, which comprise the remainder of their schedule.

--------------------------------------------
Giants have a .625 winning percentage in their last 32 games [20-12} and a .609 winning percentage since the break [42-27]. Not too shabby considering they went 13-15 in August.

Or more to the point: 49-31 in the post Molina era even after dropping the first two games.

The Padres are 5-1 against LA and 7-20 against everyone else in their last 33 games. The Giants are 21-12 in their last 33 games [a .636 winning percentage]. The Braves have a 93.1 percent chance of a playoff berth, the Giants are at 85.7 and the Padres are at 21.2.
