GAMEBALL and JOKER ==> DODGERS at GIANTS 09/15

You may not have noticed, but many of the postseason races are pretty close to being wrapped up….according to the Baseball Prospectus playoff odds the Yankees Rays Rangers and Twins at least a 97% chance of making the playoffs……and in the NL the Reds are at 98% and the Phillies at 92%....which leaves the Padres Braves Rockies and Giants battling for the last two spots in the tourney……so as we head down the stretch, expect to see the Giants at the top of Sportscenter…..at least on the days that Clinton Portis isn't talking about 53 packages ….and I gotta think that Clinton would be a perfect spokesperson for UPS…..

GAMEBALL and JOKER ==> DODGERS at GIANTS 09/15

GAMEBALL
Image
CAIN
Image
What's left to say…..Matt Cain was quietly efficient and dominant…..going 7 strong on 91 pitches…..walking none and allowing just 3 singles……yes Cain was in control all night and he wasn't letting anyone near 2nd base…..which is about all he has in common with the Jonas Brothers…..wait….what does that actually mean??? What would be second base on a guy anyway ….and what does that have to do with Huff's thong…..all things I really don't wanna know…..

TIP OF THE CAP : Image
FONTENOT
For a moment looked like he had broke through with a drive in the 5th that brought Gibbons to his knees on the warning track……then was finally able to plate that 1st run of the night in the 7th with a fist shot over whoever the hell was the second baseman for the Dodgers……Hey, its September……it's all a blur……

ISHI
Pinch hitter extraordinaire with the 1 out double pinch hitting for Cain

HUFF
Double and nice slide at home to give the Giants a cushion they sorely needed….

ROMO
3 up 3 down, 6 pitches 6 strikes……I think he is on a roll…….

JOKER

GIANTS FANS
Image
Yes, you heard me….. the Giants have only drawn 35K in back to back nights…..now that would be great for some teams, but in the heat of the race versus their bitter historical rival I expect better than that…………yes, it’s a weekday…..yes, school is back in session…..yes, ballgames ain't cheap…..but I expect these to be sellouts or very close to…..I admit I have been guilty as well, but unusual workloads have kept me into the evening with no chance of going…..I guess it’s the economy in general, it just surprises me that Giants Fans didn't show up large the last couple nights….hell we probably had more Giants Fans this past weekend in San Diego as we had in the stands tonight

SMACK OF THE STICK : Image
BOCHY
Yes, I understand you wanted to shake things up a bit…..but playing Velez on defense is playing with fire….this is a guy who despite his speed is a liability out there……Honestly, I would rather see Burrell in the leadoff spot with his ability to work a count and draw a walk….hell, give Ford a shot for a game or two….drop a bunt, take some pitches……but hey, I guess with Guillen out of the picture we had to have a butcher in the outfield out there somewhere…..and really a Velez Ross Schierholtz alignment is still probably better than Burrell Torres Guillen…….he just scares the !@#$ out of me….

PABLO
Man he looks lost up there for the last week or so….and tonight was no different, and it seemed like every threat the Giants had ended with Pablo….but hey, at least he hit that last ball slow enough to avoid the DP and draw a throw that Huff was able to beat out…..

(The fine print: There will be cussing and bad taste. This is written with the heat of the moment feel you may have during the game, with rational thought sprinkled in now and then. This is entertainment folks, sure there is a lot of truth and I am a genius, but this is all about having a laugh and enjoying the ride…….now lets go heckle Jeff Kent when he gets inducted to Cooperstown..)

Fontenot quietly enters Giants Dodgers rivalry lore.
(yes, in a pennant race that bloop single does count. I don't care how far back the Bums are. He just denied them a chance at a satisfying in- our- faces painful win)

Fonteyes?
Wait. That doesn't read correctly.

Fonta-yes?

Nah. That sounds just as lame.

Mike the Blue Fungus killer.
The Dude abides.

AND WAY TO GO HUFF DADDY.
Nice dig on what we all knew was likely going to be a PaBLOW throw.

Then, he does the Pharaoh proud, while delivering the game winner.
 emoticon

PS- did you all see how the Pharaoh set-up Mike the Blue Fungus killer-- with that comebacker that drew in TheRIOT on D--which then set up the bloop?

That was a thing of beauty.
Almost as good as PaBLOWS "intentionally just soft enough weak ground ball" to plate the game winner.
For you see, that wasn't just a "GIDP ball that wasn't, thanks to the previous pitch to the backstop".
It was a winner by design.
PaBLOW is sneaky like that.

He picks his buffet carefully.

Hell yes it does!
But not until you fork over that signed Pharaoh ball-- that NO ONE else on the planet covets besides ME.

And I AM serious when I say that I will trade my Dusty pink A.J. signed ball for it.
Do you even KNOW anyone else who has a dusty pink signed A.J. ball?

Nope. Didn't think so.
Even Bonds doesn't have one.
In fact, Conte doesn't even have one.
His signed A.J. balls -- (rumor has it that he has two)-- are purple.
And black and blue.

emoticon I would've been there Wed.& Thurs. but after I was removed by Brian Sabean from driving the team bus in SD & as long as BoozeBag Sabean is with the organization,My heart is not into IT for now. When the GM is FIRED,croaks from cirrosis of the liver,or steps off the curb & gets runover by a bus,I can NOT be happy about Giants baseball. P.S. I still owe you $$$ as well.

I don't know if you were serious or not - but "the second baseman" was Fontenot's long-time Cubbies' teammate and buddy, Ryan "the riot" Theriot. Theriot was traded Aug 1st to the Doggies, and Fontenot was traded Aug 12th to the Giants. The Cubs didn't want to foot the arb bill for either, I guess. Not surprising, since neither really hit well, and they could plug in DeWitt or Barney for about the same performance but a lot less expensive (and maybe they'll work out better).

But of course you know - it's just that it's after 3 A.M. and I have no feel for humor.

Great write-up as always, merkin.

That facking suckks. I sent you a PM so check your inbox here when you have time ok RP?

This real-life story sounds exactly like I imagined Sabean to be.
I'm really sorry to hear that you were a victim of that sh*tbag's miserable existence.

I've long maintained- if we could only re-write History.
I'd place Sabean in the Limo in Dealy Plaza.

Too harsh? Of course.

The Dodgers needed Theriot and asked for him since they knew DeWitt was part of the Lilly deal. Theriot has been banged up all year and will most likely be the Dodgers second baseman next year.

Great post about the fans, merkin. Didn't know the attendance was that poor.
