Re: GAMEBALL and JOKER ==> DOGGIES at GIANTS 08/01

I guess Tony Jackson is the ESPN beat writer for the dodgers? He posted article about today's (Aug 1) game with the sub-title "Los Angeles once again fail to score enough runs to back up a dominant pitching effort".

I typed in the following comment :

"Los Angeles once again fail to score enough runs to back up a dominant pitching effort "

dominant (adjective) : most important, powerful, or influential

There were two starting pitchers on the mound in that game : Kershaw and Cain

Kershaw [sign in to see URL], 6 hits, 2 runs allowed, 2 ER, 4 walks, 6 strikeouts
Matt Cain 7.2 IP, 4 hits, 0 runs allowed, 0 ER, 1 walks, 7 strikeouts

Which one of the two performances was "most important, powerful, or influential"? (Hint : it wasn't Kershaw's.)

Then, after clicking the "post comment" button the site tells you that you have to register to post. !@#$ that.

You'd be right if you were comparing the pitchers to each other. I think the article was comparing Kershaw to his direct competition, namely, the Giants lineup. When I think of a "dominating pitching performance," I generally think of it in relation to the hitters, not the opposing pitcher.

JOE MORGAN (some gleened from Twitter, as I was lucky enough to be AT the game)
Joe Morgan is a man of many talents…..as shown tonight on ESPN……
"He (Renteria) knows where 1st base is, he doesn't even have to look" -The Geographer
"3 out of 4 is 75%, 2 out of 3 is 66%" - The Math Teacher
"If you walk someone with a 2-run lead, you bring the tying run to the plate" - The Strategist

HAHA. Joe Morgan deserves a trophy for these.

Re: …

I give a very, very slight, subtle and almost unnoticeable cap tip to Joe Morgan.

He spend an entire inning boasting about how many times he got to beat the dodgers in his career. And how he liked it. '82, '83, every year in Cincy. I feel he hates the hated ones almost as much as us. Only (biggest) difference being he actually got to do something about for many years
