hard drive failure

so i noticed my hard drive making weird noises..didn't think much until it started crashing my computer..

issue: extra hard drive that isn't the os one...is kinda dying, but most of my pictures are on there...

how do i get back that information?

and the os is on a sperate drive so no issues with that...

any help would be good..they're all my pictures i've taken since i got a digital camera..and yes i do have an external hd, but i never backed the stuff up...yes i know i'm piss poor and a lazy !@#$..

thanks in advance.

If your hardrive has crashed you can take it to the Geek Squad and they can extract the files for you. However, it is pretty expensive....FYI

My experience with Geek Squad and failing computers usually results in, "well you should probably just buy a new one because it'll cost you around the same amount to get it fixed."

it's an extra hard drive..not the one with the operating system..and if i'm super desperate then i'll go to geek squad..if not i'll just have to ask my computer geek friends or those that had the most hard drives die on them.

Re: …

I had this happen with my external. Just one day...no more lights. I called around to some repair shops and most said the same thing,"If it ain't spinning there's not much I can do."

One guy said it would require taking it apart in a clean room and would run me upwards of $500. I'm still considering it since there are over 50 GBs of music on it (all bought and paid for).

Good luck, Monkey. Hopefully you've got enough life to make it work. They say you can put in the freezer over night and reinstall it and you can get a few minutes of function to click and drag over all your folders. Didn't work with mine, though.

Actually, dont take it to Geek Squad..they are worthless. I just used them for the first time cuz i bought an extended warranty from them for my laptop and they still charged me for repair costs. What sucks even more is that it doesnt seem like they did anything cuz i still get the same problems as before.

GEEK SQUAD CANT REPAIR FOR !@#$! emoticon

LOL. I don't normally do "side" jobs, but I swear most of the people I end up doing crap for are those that were victimized by Geek Squad, the problem wasn't fixed and their out a bunch of $$.

I get a fair amount of referrals from these folks...so I agree, don't use Geek Squad...
