I love them too. Seen them along with The Dickies, X, Social Distortion probably the most in my life..aside for bands I was touring with. Played CB's in 1998 and was just bowled over with the history of the place. Patti Smith, Blondie, Ramons, Dead Boys, etc amazing! Just listen to Ramones Alive and you just hear them blow up the world. The video of that show is amazingnondisclosed_email@example.com (Theclash77)Fri, 23 Apr 2010 16:50:15 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547838,from=rss#post547838https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547838,from=rss#post547838HA! The Ramones are always in the rotation when I get cornered and someone asks my ADD ass who my favorite band is! Dee Dee is an amazing bass player. He perfected the punk rock picking bass style. Aurthur Kane once told me that he taught Dee Dee how to play! Well the boy certainly took the ball and ran with it!! His "clicks" are so precise. If you listen to the early albums he is so spot on tight and in time. Dee Dee was the heart & soul of those angry troubadours indeed! People will sometimes try and clown on the Ramones for their simplicity. To which I simply say "Go out and try and learn a full Ramones set!" I guarantee that you'll walk away frustrated at some point. There's alot of changes in some of those songs and they come at break neck speed! Then when you're done go and play 30 songs in an hour and 15 minutes shotgunning through them like going down hill on a bike without brakes or handle bars....And the only chance you have to catch your breath is when Dee Dee charges the mike and shouts 1-2-3-4 before ripping into the next song! Did I happen to mention...That I Love the FUCKING RAMONES!!!!! 1-2-3-4!!!! nondisclosed_email@example.com (0 rangeFryDazE)Fri, 23 Apr 2010 15:37:37 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547819,from=rss#post547819https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547819,from=rss#post547819hahaha nice! Bass players are frustrated guitar players.....As for cover songs....In all my years playing in bands I only did a few in 20 years. I saw The Ramones in 1981 or so and Dee Dee was the catalyst for me wanting to be a bassist. He maybe was a simple bass player....but his energy and charisma in his early days goes unmatched. Love The Ramones....how could I forget Lemmy and Darryl from the Bad Brains....Everyone in the Bad Brains were amazing musicians...nice shout out. Though I am not a Maiden fan....there is no doubt about Steve Harris...he plays his bass like a lead guitar player...The Trooper!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Theclash77)Fri, 23 Apr 2010 07:07:16 +0000 Re: …https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547810,from=rss#post547810https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p547810,from=rss#post547810Hey Clash! I didn't realize that you were a bass player... A good bass player is worth his weight in gold!! Teach your kid how to throw a left handed breaking ball and he'll never want for a team! Learn your kid how to pluck/pick a bass and he'll always have a band!! I'm actually a guitar player. 4 strings is for snatches!!..LOL! just kidding...As a punk rock guitarist you only really use as many as five Ha ha! And a pinch just the top(bottom) two!! A little OT shop talk...How do you feel about covers? I'll just preface that by admitting that I don't really care for them, unless it's a cool song and a band can add their personal touch to it. I'm ok with cranking out a cover as a warm up to begin practice with. It's when that one cover morphs into a Super Sounds of the 70's Hair band anthem ballads hour long infomercial that it irks me. That's when I generally put down the guitar and go smoke a cigarette or sit down and kick back until everyone gets it out of their system. Unless of course I'm feeling particularly Stalin(esque),then I'll stand there and deliver the stare! LOL! And the stare varies from the Stalin's having a bad day to a sarcastic "Dude, you can't be serious??" Anyway I just had to get that off my chest for some reason... That was kind of cathartic! Thanks man, I feel better for some reason! Ha Ha! And keeping with the spirit of the thread in general... A few of my faves with off the top of me noggin... Dee Dee Ramone, Geezer Butler, Iron Maiden's Steve Harris and Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains fame! Aw sheet! How could I almost forget Good 'Ol (Ye OLD?) Lemmy Kilmister!?! ******* LEMMY WANTS YOU TO ROCK!!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (0 rangeFryDazE)Thu, 22 Apr 2010 22:11:51 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546891,from=rss#post546891https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546891,from=rss#post546891Geddy Lee (even though I am NOT a Rush fan), Mike Watt of The Minutemen and Firehouse oh and Stooges fame, Yes Les Claypool and Flea are both amazing players but I feel they "over play" sometimes. Same goes for Matt Freeman of Rancid. Sometimes it's nice to play in the pocket so to speak, and be tasteful.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Theclash77)Fri, 16 Apr 2010 08:54:31 +0000 Re: Bass Players in the house?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546889,from=rss#post546889https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546889,from=rss#post546889I always listened to bands. You learn how songs work, and how to play with a drummer. Having said that, the guys who I listen to now are the guys who groove regardless of style. My favorites are Bobby Vega and George Porter Jr., because of their "inner motors", and the way they express it. Been listening to a lot of TOP lately too. Rocco is totally unique, and mind boggling. Oh, and Jaco is to Electric Bass, as Hendrix is to Electric Guitar. He changed the landscape.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bass Culture)Fri, 16 Apr 2010 08:35:10 +0000 Re: Bass Players in the house?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546876,from=rss#post546876https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546876,from=rss#post546876Nice call on Paul 77. When I remember back to the first dozen times I listened to London Calling, outside the title track there was one song that kept grabbing me each time I heard it: and it still reminds me of the band in so many ways. And I won't bag on you for Sting as I paid to see him a few times back in the day and enjoyed the shows, although I think he fancies himself more as a lutenist these days: nondisclosed_email@example.com (billabong2)Thu, 15 Apr 2010 23:30:59 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546864,from=rss#post546864https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546864,from=rss#post546864Nice BB, but after I read my post I cringed. Bass players that rock..Yes Jack Bruce (Hot Tuna!), Entwhistle, Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Matt of Rancid fame, and many more. Many Jazz bassists, and cats that play reggae well...oh and Paul Simonon of The Clash, there are many, many out there. I usually will listen to a good rhythm section and not pay attention to anything else. Just love it when a bassist and drummer lock in a groove. Oh and another great bassist would be Sting....(ducks)nondisclosed_email@example.com (Theclash77)Thu, 15 Apr 2010 16:47:44 +0000 Re: Bass Players in the house?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546857,from=rss#post546857https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546857,from=rss#post546857While I thoroughly enjoy many types of music, I have never been a musician, let alone a bass player, although at times I have been known to pluck out a stunning cover of “Smoke On The Water” if alcohol content has reached appropriate levels . . . So while my resume is somewhat lacking on the production level, I do know what I enjoy listening to, and I was curious as to whom the real bass players here admired as masters of their craft.    For me you can’t go wrong with Jaco, it is only a shame that his window was cut so short. I also have always enjoyed Les Claypool, not only for his musical talents, but he is so much fun to watch playing live. I also have to throw in Jack Bruce, who has been involved with so much great stuff over the years. I could go on, but I am curious about the bass player’s choices here. And 77, as Ali once said, “It’s not bragging if you can back it up”.   nondisclosed_email@example.com (billabong2)Thu, 15 Apr 2010 15:26:23 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546797,from=rss#post546797https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p546797,from=rss#post546797hahahahaha...."grow up"?
