Bass Players in the house?

Reading through the music and J. Thunders threads, it seems that maybe Bass Players are well represented here.

I've been playing, like, forever, and still do it for a living. Any other past, present or future low enders?

No man, it's a thing of beauty!

I currently tour with Candye Kane. The blues has been berry berry good to me for a while now.

Just one thing; what is this "grow up" thing you refer to?

Re: Bass Players in the house?

While I thoroughly enjoy many types of music, I have never been a musician, let alone a bass player, although at times I have been known to pluck out a stunning cover of “Smoke On The Water” if alcohol content has reached appropriate levels . . .

So while my resume is somewhat lacking on the production level, I do know what I enjoy listening to, and I was curious as to whom the real bass players here admired as masters of their craft.

For me you can’t go wrong with Jaco, it is only a shame that his window was cut so short. I also have always enjoyed Les Claypool, not only for his musical talents, but he is so much fun to watch playing live. I also have to throw in Jack Bruce, who has been involved with so much great stuff over the years. I could go on, but I am curious about the bass player’s choices here.

And 77, as Ali once said, “It’s not bragging if you can back it up”.

Nice BB, but after I read my post I cringed.

Bass players that [sign in to see URL] Jack Bruce (Hot Tuna!), Entwhistle, Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Matt of Rancid fame, and many more. Many Jazz bassists, and cats that play reggae [sign in to see URL] and Paul Simonon of The Clash, there are many, many out there. I usually will listen to a good rhythm section and not pay attention to anything else. Just love it when a bassist and drummer lock in a groove. Oh and another great bassist would be Sting....(ducks)

Nice call on Paul 77. When I remember back to the first dozen times I listened to London Calling, outside the title track there was one song that kept grabbing me each time I heard it:

and it still reminds me of the band in so many ways.

And I won't bag on you for Sting as I paid to see him a few times back in the day and enjoyed the shows, although I think he fancies himself more as a lutenist these days:

I always listened to bands. You learn how songs work, and how to play with a drummer.

Having said that, the guys who I listen to now are the guys who groove regardless of style. My favorites are Bobby Vega and George Porter Jr., because of their "inner motors", and the way they express it.

Been listening to a lot of TOP lately too. Rocco is totally unique, and mind boggling.

Oh, and Jaco is to Electric Bass, as Hendrix is to Electric Guitar. He changed the landscape.
