Hey UGF...

I'm sure your gonna get veritable Baskin
Robbins slough of recommendations....

Here's my unedjamicated view from personal
[sign in to see URL] was a long time Norton user .
If I remember correctly they had a problem a
few years ago that was allowing systems
 to get infected and they
really dropped the ball on manning up and
addressing the problem... I was one of those
unfortunate [sign in to see URL]!...So then I ended up
trying out trend-micro which at the time was
cheaper than Norton...

I was happy with T/[sign in to see URL] T/M used to have
alot of conflicts with Windows back then. So
it took alot of intial tweaking and trial and
error to get it up and running like I wanted
it [sign in to see URL] that was a few years ago as
well so things may have changed since....

McAfee is the biggest pile of worm dung IMO!!
I got the free version that comcast offers, a
year and a half ago when went with them as
my ISP.... I've never been so frustrated and
outright enraged by a software program of
any kind, let alone an AV... It was a MAJOR
resource [sign in to see URL] would constantly run
updates that completely would disable your
machine... Might as well take a walk around
the block, because your not going to get
anything done for the next 10-20 minutes!
Sonmtimes longer!
It always caused my system to refresh so I was
always losing work!... Their tech support
was just as frustrating! I wont even get
started with their SPAM!!! emoticon

I've heard that the software that you pay for
seprately is supposedly better and more user
[sign in to see URL] I so many bad expierences that
it was enough to say !@#$ them!

Google "McAfee sucks" to see what I'm talking about! emoticon

Since then I've used both AVG and Avast on
seperate machines.... I really like AVG as
for the most part runs silently in the back
ground and is pretty much hassle free outside
the daily scheduled scan that I have it run
late night early [sign in to see URL] since
their latest update in December AVG seems to
be a little bit more of a resource hog...

Avast has alot of good reviews and is always
amoung the top free AV picks amoung users...
I like it too save the annoying pop ups that
keep reminding you that it's working!...They
really aren't that big of a deal and no way
on the scale of [sign in to see URL]!...But it seems
to work well for what it's supposed to do!

I also use Malware Bytes that I run off the
desk top at least a couple of times of month..
MWB is good at sometimes catching any malware
or add ons that you may have picked up from
any henke [sign in to see URL] you shouldn't be on
those [sign in to see URL]!...Streaming is the way to
go!!

Thanks for starting this topic! ...I know
there are some IT guys here that should have
some good insight... I'd like to read
their opinions too, as I'm looking into getting a
new machine in the next month or two!

Thanks for your insights guys. I went with AVG, but now the firewall is having issues. For some reason, the firewall will just become inactive and not work. Did the same thing happen to you guys as well?

I just got AVG as well. Forgot to get an anti-virus when I upgraded to Windows 7.

I like it so far. Doesn't bother me with stupid upgrade offers and scare tactics like Norton! lol.

I haven't had any problems at all, though.

Sorry. That was a useless post..
