Road Trip Day 5

Didn't spend a lot of time sightseeing today...

Did take a trip to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park...cloudy but the sun did peek out a bit when we hit the top so we could see the mountains...very beautiful!

Image

Spent some time in the afternoon taking the ferry over to Whidby Island...very nice and a beautiful afternoon crossing the Juan de Fuca Strait..

More driving around tomorrow, then onward to Seattle!

March 18, 2007 - I finally made it to spring training!! woo hoo!!! Of course, it would be 90 degrees and wall to wall people in Scottsdale. The bleacher bums, which I was a part of, all moaned when they saw the misters turned on over the seats behind home plate...there was threat of a revolt and major theft but everyone pretty much suffered/sweltered through it.

Game was against the Royals. Not too many names I knew except for Teahan and former Giant Reggie Sanders. Lowry got beat up a bit...I missed his worst inning. Amazing players for the game:

Armando Benitez - he's looked sharp all spring and today he was looking strong and in command of his pitches. Mando Blownitez is not one of my favorites so for him to impress me like this, well...maybe there is still hope (for a trade!!...lol) emoticon

Mr. Happy goes 3 for 3...wow. Clutch hitting, going to opposite field, waiting on pitches, making some key infield plays...could we finally see something happen here?? Someone pinch me when it happens.

Freddy Lewis and Jason Ellison - speed does win games...Freddy beats out a throw to first and an errant throw bounces away and he makes a heads up move to take second. Gets to third and Jason hits a big ole bouncing ball to 3rd...throw goes wide as throw was rushed to beat Ellison to first, Freddy scores...Giants win!

Saw a couple of good covers at first by Kline and Kim...both looked sharp.

And, although there were two outs at the time, Frandsen laid down a nice bunt to try to score a run and throw off the defense...didn't quite work but lots of people were excited about the prospect of our team doing something exciting like a suicide squeeze...something we haven't seen in a long, long time!!

emoticon to the head to Durham, Linden and Aurilia...come on guys, we need those bats!

Next Giants game for me will be Wednesday down in Tucson to see the White Sox...seats are next to the Giants dugout so I hope to have some pictures.
Unfortunately, I have to watch the Pod people for the next two days....I think I'll bring a book to read!

Hamels started toward the dugout after what he thought was a strike. Lincecum didn't get the call & buzzed ump Dana DeMuth w. a fastball that slammed off the backstop & then froze Hamels w. another 3rd strike. 4/28/10 Timmy the ump killer.

Re: CroixdeStick

Four games later, I survived spring training. Had an opportunity to see the Padres play the A's (and about 1/4 in attendance were in Giants gear), then the Padres vs. the Angels (yawn..but the Peoria field is one of the nicer venues). Went to Tucson to see the windiest game east of Candlestick when the Giants played the White Sox...a heartbreaker of a game with our bullpen taking a big hit and Richie pulling a groin muscle trying to avoid GITP (that would be ground into TRIPLE play!). Had the luxury of sitting two rows from the field and seeing a very antsy Tim Flannery coach third base. Scoop alert!!!....Flannery had a friend sitting in front of me and said that the regulars were faking pulled muscles to get out of playing and stated the our bullpen is in need of help (and commented that they had a better bullpen in San Diego than here).

Last game was against the Dbacks...a very soggy scene, which lasted 6 1/2 innings (the bottom of the 7th, Noah's ark came through)...Morris looked pretty good, Benitez...well, he looked like the Mando we all know and love. Flannery might be right...

Heading home...and ate a lot of ballpark food...diet resumes tomorrow!!! Opening Day...here I come!!!
