Great thread topic!....Thanks!

I'm a HUGE NY DOLLS/Johnny Thunders fan....
I met and chatted with David Johanson,
Sylvain Sylvain and Sami Yaffa
When they played at the Fillmore on their
reunion tour just after Aurthur Kane died...
I've been to a ton of shows over the years &
can honestly say that was one of the best
Rock and roll shows that I've ever seen!

It's too bad that Johnny, Jerry and Aurthur
couldn't be there....

I have an EPIC brush with Aurthur Kane story
as well that I'll save for later....

C'est la vie Johnny Thunders!

The REAL Heartbreakers!

The NY Dolls and The Heartbreakers (Johnny's band) were important to the developmnent of no holds bar rocknroll. As a fan of 1977-1979 punk rock, The Heartbreakers are on the top of my list of bands that are faves. If the Dolls did not exist, I don't think the Sex Pistols would have either

Oh for certain!...or absolutely certainly!

Depending on who spins the yarn... Malcom
Mclaren was in the was either heavily inspired
by the Dolls or just blantantly ripped them
off applying some of the same ideas he had for
the Dolls while he was their MGR and used
them to form the Pistols.....

Here's a blurb from and interview with
Sylvain Sylvain that appeared on [sign in to see URL]
earlier this year.....

["And, according to Sylvain, another trade
he made, swapping Malcolm McLaren a white
Les Paul Custom for a plane ticket to
England, helped launch the Sex Pistols.
“This happened when then band was really
down,” Sylvain relates. “We had no money
again and half of us were junkies. Just
before the band broke up, Malcolm, who I’d
met through my interest in the rag business
(i.e., the fashion world), became our
personal manager. He was a friend and a big
fan of the Dolls, and Malcolm and his
girlfriend owned a clothes shop called SEX
on King’s Road in London. He said that if I
gave him my white Les Paul Custom — it
sounded so beautiful; it was a ’73 or ’74
with P-90 pickups and it had a sticker of a
pin-up girl on it, which I did with a lot of
my guitars — he would mail me back a plane
ticket and build a new band around me in
England.
“Well, the ticket never came, but he did
mail my mother — because he couldn’t find my
address — a seven-page handwritten letter
that’s now in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame
telling me he’d found this kid Johnny who
hung out at his shop and couldn’t really
sing but was better than Johansen so he
could be the singer and all this stuff.
Somehow, it never happened, and when I saw
the Sex Pistols there was my white Les Paul
with the pin-up sticker being played by
Steve Jones. And that became his thing, the
guitar with the pin-up girl — which was
really my thing. But that’s the way things
happen. It’s crazy sometimes"]

I too am a huge fan of the late 70's punk
[sign in to see URL] is the height of the "REAL"
punk rock movement....

If you haven't read "Please Kill Me" by Legs
McNeil then let me recommend that you do...
If you have, then you already know what I
mean!

Read Please Kill Me twice now. Love that book!! What a time and place to be. Wish I was in NYC during the mid to late 70's. Had the joy of playing at CBGB's in 97

"Please Kill Me" is one of the best music books I've read. I like the Don Letts film "Punk Attitude" was good too--added bonus is you get to hear Ari Upp's cockney-German accent.

Good knowledge! That song fit so well in that one episode of The Sopranos. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the music. Please Kill Me is such a good reead. I could read it over and over and not tire of it.
