It's a shame, as this is exactly the kind of program that a stimulus program should be. If you're going to give out billions of dollars at least make it have some tangible effects.

Consumers win
Dealerships win
Workers win

And you end helping out the earth at teh same time.

Cash for Clunkers

Looks like the gov may be looking to add funds to keep the program running. I agree, its a win-win-win program.

Democrats in the House were exploring the possibility of votes as early as Friday to replenish the funding. The Senate was not scheduled to vote on Friday but lawmakers hoped to win approval for additional funding next week.

Toyota wins.
Honda wins.
Kia wins.

(You know, those companies that don't sell vehicles that get 19 MPG. or less.)

If I trade the old Insight in for a new Prius I have to pay the government $4,500?

Not sure what's worse-- listening to these two idiots speak, or the incredible amount of personal rights given up when agreeing to the waiver/disclaimer.

Perhaps it is just their way of granting them legal rights to pursue any dealer who falsifies information, though this waiver covers anyone who goes to [sign in to see URL]

Seems like a mix of Fox hysteria and rational concern?

I'm going to lean to the former, Bucks. I'm sure a disclaimer of this sort comes up on a lot of gov't web-based things.

By having the disclaimer, it allows the government to fully prosecute anyone tampering with or abusing the site.

Essentially, to use the program, dealers are acting as a quasi-official of the government. I don't think anyone would dispute that this is better than employing thousands of people on the gov't dollar just to go dealer-to-dealer to finalize the Cash for Clunkers transactions.

As the government is more willing to do business on the web, we're going to see more and more of these kind of things. Imagine what the disclaimer/waiver would say if you were able to vote online or apply for SS benefits through an electronic server.

Re: …

Cash for Clunkers ends Monday night at 8 PM. We still haven't signed papers on the house sale, so we ain't go the cash to make this party happen.

Oh well. I've got someone coming to buy my Honda tomorrow...
