GAMEBALL and JERK..... 08/17/08 GIANTS at BRAVES

08/17/08 GIANTS at BRAVES

GAMEBALL emoticon
LINCECUM

!@#$, you can just leave this kid on the top of the page……
Whats the stat of the day????
When he Giants score 3 runs for Lincecum, he is 17-0……..
Any semblance of an offense this year, and Tim is making at charge at Webb for the Cy Young……

TIP OF THE CAP emoticon
ISHIKAWA
Nice……left for dead, bonus baby Travis found his bat in Norwich and has been mashing all year……..and he has great timing, as the Giants were happy to give him a shot while Bowker gets his swing worked on…..And Travis looks so much better……powerful swing…….patient eye……..reminds me a little of ……Freddie Lewis……..lets see if he has the same knack for squaring up everything on the planet………..
Good job on HR #1 Travis…….and if Travis can make it to the show……can EME be far behind?????

WILSON
Nice work for a 4 out save…….he still walks too many……but this kid looks to be on his way to elite status…….now lets see if we can work on a changeup……..THEN you could see a few more All Star appearances

JERK :jerk:
YANKEES
Image
Wow…..pretty sure this is one of the signs of the apocalypse…….
Seas boil, Moon turns blood red, Giants Retreads become valued members of the Yankess team……
Yes, Cody "!@#$" Ransom is a Yankee and chipped into the landslide today with his 4th career HR, and first as a Yankee…….
Add Ransom to retread Dan Giese, who the young age of 31 made his first career starts with the Yankees…..
Good luck Yankees, and if you are looking for any more retread, might I interest you in a large sweaty blond man…….

SMACK OF THE STICK emoticon
DODGER BULLPEN
Blew a 4 run lead in the 9th, only to make it a "Tyler Waler Victory"
Saito's absence has rattled the Dodger bullpen…..here's to hoping it’s a fatal flaw

random clippings:

from Baggs:

"Pretty impressive when you can throw three pitches and dominate Chipper Jones, who leads the majors with a .364 average. That’s what Tim Lincecum did with a runner on second base in the sixth inning Sunday.

Lincecum said he threw two fastballs for strikes before getting Jones to look bad bailing out on a slider.

“I was lucky to get the first two by him,” Lincecum said. “That’s what you want to do every time. Then you can do what you want. The ball’s in your back pocket.”

Brian Wilson looks forward to four-out saves.

“Because I might have a chance to hit,” said Wilson, though he didn’t get his first at-bat of the season in a four-out save Sunday. “I didn’t know he double-switched. I thought I was going to see some lumber.”

There’s nothing a pitcher likes better than facing an opposing reliever. Even someone like Barry Zito can luck into a few hits, just because they take regular BP and get a look at major league pitching every fifth day. Not so for tattooed closers who lead the league in saves.

Billy Sadler learned how tough it is Saturday night.

He had his first major league at-bat, facing Atlanta’s Mike Hampton.

“I stepped in the box and (catcher Brian) McCann said, `Can you hit?’’’ Sadler said. “I said, `No, not really.’ So first pitch, I wasn’t expecting a changeup. But that’s what I got. My first at-bat since junior college and he throws me three changeups.”

Sadler swung at all three.

“I was taking all the hacks I could,” he said.

Matt Cain overheard Sadler as he strolled past.

“Better to get it over with fast,” Cain said.

I went over to scold McCann for being so cruel. He thought it was pretty funny.

“Tell him they were sinkers, not changeups,” McCann said.

Sadler was able to give his cheering section quite a show Saturday night. He had 65 friends and family at the game, most of whom made the five-hour drive from Pensacola, Fla.

“It’s been a blessing to have them here,” Sadler said. “These are all the people who’ve been with me on the journey – the people who will always be there.”

And will always tease him about that first big-league at-bat.

“Hey, I was a decent hitter in high school,” Sadler said.

Maybe Wilson doesn’t want to grab the lumber after all. He’s 0-for-2 in his big league career.

Can he do better than Sadler?

“No comment,” Wilson said, smirking.

Will Aurilia be a Giant next season?

I’ve been thinking about something the past couple days.

Whenever I’ve asked Brian Sabean about trading Rich Aurilia, the GM has claimed that other teams have shown no interest. The Giants tried to move him before the July 31 deadline, to no avail. While club officials are fastidious about not commenting on waiver-related matters, I’d bet anything that Aurilia has cleared and could be traded anywhere in about half a nanosecond.

Is there really no interest in Aurilia? Asking around, it appears that Sabean is being truthful. Some scouts have recommended him, but there really haven’t been any nibbles.

But even if there was interest, I’m not sure the Giants can afford to trade Aurilia, and here’s why:

Aside from him, only Ryan Rohlinger can play third base. And he’s 2-for-18 with a slew of stranded runners over his first five games.

Considering the paucity of third basemen in the Giants system, I wonder if Aurilia might even have a place on next year’s team. I finally got around to asking Bruce Bochy about that today.

“He’s had a good year,” Bochy said. “He’ll be a free agent and that’s his choice. I believe he’ll have some good options at the end of the year.”

When I pressed Bochy on whether he would recommend bringing Aurilia back, the manager was non-committal.

“These are things we’ll talk about with Brian at the end of the year,” he said. “Right now, Richie has done a great job for us. He’s done everything I’ve asked.”

I haven’t talked to Aurilia about next season, but I wonder if he’d retire before going somewhere else. He is very connected to the Giants, proud of his history with the club and wasn’t keen on being traded this season.

One third baseman not to be forgotten, though, is Kevin Frandsen. He could have had a great opportunity this season if he hadn’t blown out his Achilles’ tendon at the end of the spring.

And a final 3B note: Conor Gillaspie is swinging it for Salem-Keizer in the short-season Northwest League after a recent promotion from Arizona.

Pornstache vs Vin

From SI.com, via the LA Times:

Dodger upset with Vin Scully
Posted: Sunday August 17, 2008 10:05AM ET

He's been cantankerous all week -- like that's different than any other week, but he's really been Jeff Kent ornery and then some -- peeved at anyone who might suggest he's doing better because Manny Ramirez is hitting behind him in the lineup.
It's obvious, though, everyone noticing it, Kent going into Saturday night's game hitting .500 behind Ramirez, Vin Scully mentioning it during each broadcast.
"Vin Scully talks too much," Kent said.
Now that's funny, the guy who normally doesn't say much, this time saying way too much. "You can't say that," I told Kent, and he said he had just spoken to 200 women (at a Dodgers function) "and I told them the same thing, and they laughed. "We all love you, Vin," Kent added with a mischievous grin, "but you still talk too much."

Ran that by Scully. He had nothing to say.
