Oh, he doesn't sell his grapes to anyone. It's just a hobby of his and the vineyard is very small (a little over 2 acres). But still, it's big enough that picking the damn grapes and doing the crush require quite an effort among our family and friends. We just transferred the wine from last year to bottles from the carbuoy's where they were being oaked - and that took all day long with 6 people.

My parents bought the property in 1986 before the wine explosion and my father put in a vineyard in 1988. It took a while before anything was really "drinkable" - but I've been a part of the process since I was 8 years old. I'm no wine expert, but I love to learn. I'm in my carmenere stage right now. = )

Re: …

It's hard to make bad Reisling in Washington from what I understand. It's a relatively easy wine to grow/make and the weather in Washington is great for it, plenty of heat and they get an extra hour or so in the middle of summer.

We're pouring a nice Reisling from ]RiverAerie winery. It's in the Columbia valley. Everything they do is great. Pretty inexpensive stuff, but super good. Some Red Mountain AVA stuff and columbia valley stuff. Their Malbec is super plush and nothing like the Argentine stuff. They've also got a bordeaux blend called "Fete" that goes for like $9/bottle wholesale. It's bangin', yo.

Re: One for the winos

I'm going to some private barrel tastings at Keplinger and Far Niente in Napa this weekend. Has anyone here ever been to those? It's a first for me.

Then dinner at Tra Vigne - which I think is one of the better places to eat in Napa.
