Last night I indulged in a few of the very best bottles of the bubbly known to man.
It was called BEER.

Re: One for the winos

I to do love those big Napa cabs. From the floor to the hills they are some damn fine wines.

I just spent the day tasting through Napa a couple of weeks ago and did a little resupply job myself. Things started out up on Howell Mountain at Neal Family which is always one of my favorite spots. We spent about an hour with Gove tasting their latest and catching up on what is to come. Unfortunately 2010 was a rough year for them with the weather, and he said they left about 80% of their fruit on the vine as it was well below their standards. That was kind of a bummer to hear, but on a positive note their ]2007 Cabernet is a damn fine wine. I grabbed a few bottles of that and their ]2005 Rutherford Dust Vineyard Cabernet which are sitting patiently in the rack for now.

Not so much for the ]2010 Sauv Blancs and ]2009 Rutherford Dust Zinfandels I picked up which I have been going through like water. The zin is a great BBQ wine, and the Sauv Blanc is a nice summer day sipper. Great stuff.

We made our way down Howell Mountain and headed over to Duckhorn next. I am normally not a big Merlot drinker, but they were tasting their ]2008 Three Palms Merlot and it is some pretty fantastic stuff. They also have a nice ]2007 Cabernet going, but probably the most interesting wine we tasted there was from their ]2008 Goldeneye Pinot from the Anderson Valley. You can really pick up the smoke from the fires that year which was quite intriguing.

We also tried a winery new to us on the recommendation of Gove called ]Alpha Omega. Not sure if you have heard of them 77, but they have some interesting wines. They source from a variety of vineyards, and we picked up some of the Asc, [sign in to see URL] ASC&ShippingState=CA]2008 Cabernet we tasted and we really enjoyed their ]Napa Valley Rose In mid-September we’re going to be making a couple day Northern Sonoma County run through Russian River / Dry Creek / Alexander Valleys. I’m working on the game plan now which will include ]Martinelli which is one of my favorites, but if you have any suggestions on places to taste 77, let me know.

YOU must go to Copain! If you like Viognier and Syrah then this place is a must. I believe it is off of River Road in the Russian River Valley west of Healdsburg or so. Prices range from $35-$60 or so. Thomas George is always a nice place to visit to. If you want a private tasting at a winery that has no tasting room. My friends own Arnold-Roberts Winery. They fabulous Syrah's and Chards. I can make a call and hopefully they could accomodate you.

Also, Howell Mtn is a real nice AVA. We ended our day at St. Clement sipping wine and looking over towards that area. So many places to taste

Thanks for the tips 77, and the offer to try to set things up at your friends winery. Let me see how things shape up and I'll let you know on the call.

I haven't done a Sonoma tasting tour outside Martinelli for a couple of years now, so I'm looking forward to getting about up there.
