Regardless, I agree with everything your said, especially the cain part. We gotta be patient with these young pitchers...it's frustrating to watch sometimes but it's not like we're in a pennant race.nondisclosed_email@example.com (username510)Thu, 05 Jun 2008 01:42:34 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p471829,from=rss#post471829https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p471829,from=rss#post471829steve holm..u are a fucker!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Monkey51)Wed, 04 Jun 2008 23:50:09 +0000 GAMEBALL and JERK..... 06/04 METS at GIANTShttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p471828,from=rss#post471828https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p471828,from=rss#post471828 06/04 METS at GIANTS GAMEBALL DRAFT Ahhhhh….. Draft Day is here…….go forth and rejoice baseball geeks Cause if Opening Day is like Baseball Xmas…..then Draft Day must be like Baseball Birthday…….. Like Opening Day…… you can never have a bad Xmas…… but with Draft Day….. you never know…….it could be like that Birthday your Girlfriend told you she was screwing the dude driving the Ice Cream Truck……..lets just say Scott Joplin's The Entertainer still gives me a rush of adrenaline….. Ahhh, but that’s business for my shirnk……this is about baseball,.,…..so lets get back to it…… Yes, the draft is beautiful because it represents two very exciting things……YOUTH and the UNKNOWN…….. Young players are the life-blood of baseball and what we are witnessing tomorrow is the birth of a whole new crop of careers……..Spring time of their baseball lives.……. Each player his own story, someone to follow , to judge and emotionally invest in…….. They are also UNKNOWN….. those #1 picks could be CHIPPER JONES or BRIAN TAYLOR……..and there always those late round what the fucks….62nd Rounder Mike Piazza…… Christ the Giants 1st round pick may never make it past Single A, where their 13 Rounder might end up in the hall….. you JUST DON'T KNOW…… BTW…..Steve Holm was also a 62nd round pick……..by the Dodgers………(albeit unsigned)   TIP OF THE CAP DENKER Everyone's favorite ewok looks like he has a little extra base pop…..splitting the gap in right center for a easy triple, and then turning on an inside fastball and sending a shot over Endy Chavez's head in left for a double…… Denker was key in 2 of the 3 Giants runs…..and I got to go now……got to pick this kid up in my NL Roto league…….. JERK CAIN Once the darling of the Giants youth movement, Cain struggled through 5 innings today, giving up 5 runs in the process….. Which have everyone asking, what has happened to everyone's favorite phenom…… I am guessing the answer is…..not much really…..which is good news and bad news…… Good news, because all the talent is still there….bad news because we aren't seeing much progress…… Cain has had an inconsistent first half which has become emblematic of his young career…… The stuff is there…..the punch outs are there…… the control is not……. If you take a look at Cains brief career, he has a large split pre and post all star Pre All Star 4.29 ERA 1.36 WHIP 7.4 K/9 Post All Star 3.28 ERA 1.13 WHIP 8.0K/9 The difference in WHIP translates to 1 more walk and 1 more hit per 9 innings…… which may not seem like much…..but it’s enough to tip the scales……from good to mediocre……. Now today fastball location was a big issue, as Holm would set up repeatedly at the base of the strike zone, only to have Cain throw Belt High Fastballs countless times…… in fact I don’t think Cain could throw that many belt high strikes if he tried….. Cain was also in love with the curveball……which he used mostly against Righthanders……Wasn't a great offering but seemed to do the job even when he left it up……He had a good change up working versus lefties, and he should keep working on this pitch and see if he can use it versus righties in addition to the curve…… There were really 4 pitches that killed Cain today….. A Curve to Reyes on the first that came across at the belt and got spanked off the bricks A Fastball to Beltran which missed the low target and came across right at the belt A Changeup to Delgado which came across right at the belt And then in the 5th a clearly pissed off Reyes, coming off an error golfed a fastball that was on the low inside corner over the bricks in right…..this was a good pitch just plain beaten by a good hitter……. Bottom line….Don't worry about this kid…..he is still figuring his shit out and has only begun to learn how to pitch…….. Not blessed with Lincecum's pure stuff……Cain is a work horse with a hard fastball and a lot of material to work with……. When he is hitting his spots he is going to look like a world beater….and when he's not he will look just about average…….but again…….Cain should be the least of our worries…… SMACK OF THE STICK ROWAND Seems like he misjudged the flyball from Beltran in the first……caught almost enough glove to be called an error….. And then twice with the result of the game still in doubt, Rowand had 2 out RBI chances…..and twice he hit squibbers to second for an easy outs HOLM Fucker…… Sent a DEEP SHOT to the Left Center Wall coming within about 5 feet short of tying the game in the 8th……only to get a sac fly……. by merkin ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- nondisclosed_email@example.com (merkin)Wed, 04 Jun 2008 23:15:46 +0000
