3B trade coming??

With the possibility of starting a left side of the infield that doesn't have experience above Class A ball on opening day, the San Jose Mercury News reported the San Francisco Giants could made a deal for a third baseman.

The Giants could trade for a third baseman such as Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers, Joe Crede of the Chicago White Sox or Philadelphia Phillies' Wes Helms. Giants GM Brian Sabean said he has engaged in conversations about third basemen over the past two days. The Giants could also go with some combination of Kevin Frandsen and Eugenio Velez.

The original plan was to play Rich Aurilia at third, but Sabean acknowledged that it's likely the veteran will open the season at first base after Daniel Ortmeier has appeared overwhelmed at the plate this spring.

What a F****** disaster this team is! They should just play Ort at first until he either plays himself out of a job- Aurilla is a backup nothing more. This Crede thing truly shows how pathetic the Giants organization is. Sabean has no guts- either s*** or get off the pot. Make the trade and suffer the fans wrath if we give up a quality pitcher and Crede is a bust. Sabean is too concerned with his past mistakes and obviuosly doesnt want to take any more chances in looking like a fool!

Let's bring up all the kids from Single A!

From the Chron....

"Ryan Rohlinger?

That's the latest name. In a transaction that doesn't often occur this late in spring training, the Giants gave Rohlinger an invitation to big-league camp, pulling him from the minor-league camp and telling him he'd stay with the team until it breaks camp Tuesday.

Or maybe longer.

"We're staying open-minded," manager Bruce Bochy said. Sabean said the team is doing its "due diligence" with Rohlinger if only to widen the possibilities.

Rohlinger played third in Wednesday night's 4-2 loss to the Cubs, a late addition after Aurilia was scratched with elbow tendinitis. Aurilia was in the original lineup at third, but the elbow condition might keep him at first in the coming days.

"This is what I wanted to do my whole life," said Rohlinger, 25, a sixth-round pick in the 2006 draft who has shined at the plate this month - in his first 10 at-bats, he had four hits (including a grand slam and two doubles) and seven RBIs. But Wednesday, he was 0-for-3 with a strikeout and left three men on base.

If the Giants had a preference (barring a trade), Ortmeier would win the first-base job with a sudden outburst of hits. The switch-hitter recently got extra at-bats in minor-league camp and made an adjustment from the left side, thanks to advice from batting coach Carney Lansford, then he tripled and singled in his first two at-bats Wednesday."

---------

On a personal side note, I'm happy to see that Denker got rewarded with a strong spring by being "promoted" to Fresno. He's another kid that we could see with the big club sometime this year.

Just sayin'

From some MLB trade blog -

"The Rays are searching for an outfielder who can hit left-handed, and now that they have tried and failed to sign Kenny Lofton, they are also taking a look at Coco Crisp"

If the D-Rays are looking for a fourth outfielder would the Giants consider trading Lewis for Iwamura? The Rays also have Aybar and Guzman but I don't know much about these players.

Seems like the Rays could start Longoria at third and then they still have Zobrist to play second. Would the Giants make such a move? It would give them an option at third base.

Just askin'

Upton got hit on the hand today too. The Rays might be really desperate to find a decent outfielder. Roberts for Iwamura?

Iwamura isn't going anywhere. He's going to start at 2nd and leadoff.

Because the Rays have Zobrist waiting in the wings and Brignac in the minors at a time when they are running out of outfielders.

Plus Iwamura isn't a second baseman, he is a third baseman.
