Everything I've heard says he's legit.
I love the video I've seen of his swing. Small, quiet, good batspeed. He is every bit as polished as what BA indicated, and BA agrees that of the high school position players drafted this year, he should make the majors ahead of them.
The comparisons to Chase Utley seem to be everywhere, simply with less power but more speed. His defense is strong, and while some say he isn't quite a sure thing to leave shortstop, the Giants have decided to play him exclusively at second this spring, with guys like Culberson, Burriss, and Bocock in the system at shortstop. His arm and range should both rank as plus there.

I loved everything I saw. Good all-around ball player and like Utley he'll be a doubles machine.

I don't know about this speedier, less powerfull Utley comparison. I think he's more like a Ray Durham with better D.

If teh five 'tools' are average, power, speed, range and arm, and he's different in two of the five (or 40%), wouldn't it mean that he's not really like Utley?
If his D was not-quite-top-notch enough to move him to 2B, why not throw an Alfonso Soriano tag on him? Brian Roberts has less pop and more speed than Utley. Orlando Hudson seems to fit the mold pretty well. Brandon Phillips?
Not saying you're making the comparison, Brute, but I don't like these "auto-assign" comparisons that the BA-types do. They assign a name like Utley to a middle IF who hit for better power that his position. Why not just say "he'll be a good middle IF who'll hit for above average power for his position"? I would understand what that means.

That's a great comparison, except his d is better and in his prime he won't be as fast as Ray was in his prime. He's also about 3 inches taller.
I think I would know best because he was in our league in HS. I played against him 6 times and we were 6-0 against his team. He went like 4-8 off me

I was being facetious. After all, Durham is (on offense) Utley with less power and more speed. I'm just subtlety saying that people throw around comps to allstar/MVP type players too easily.

I hope you're joking. How many 2B's were better than Durham between 1998 and 2006? Kent, and...? Any Giants fan should cream their pants at the prospect of producing such a player.

Seriously, 2006 Ray Durham was pretty facking good. Like so good I'd take that production from my 1B. Like "Chase Who?" good.
