Unlike the Giants I love the way they approach the draft. They spend money for players that have dropped because of bonus demands or because people are convinced they are going to school. This results in getting first round talents in later rounds. Also they got arguably the best player in the draft in the late 20's b/c they gave him top-pick money. This is why I believe they will stay good for a long time. The Giants on the other hand waste a supplemental first round draft pick on Jackson Williams (5th or 6th round talent) so that they can sign him fast and for relatively little money. Drives me fucking crazy that they took a catcher, while reportedly good defensively (had a ton of pass balls and errors in short-season) that cannot hit a lick.nondisclosed_email@example.com (giantc)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:39:38 +0000 Re: Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458239,from=rss#post458239https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458239,from=rss#post458239jdb: and their catcher is a multi time all star, the giants' is not. byco: nice new avitar, thehed has been loving it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (tehehd)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 12:35:03 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458223,from=rss#post458223https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458223,from=rss#post458223their catcher is batting eighth , ours is batting fourth 'nuff saidnondisclosed_email@example.com (jdb242424)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 11:28:50 +0000 Re: Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458222,from=rss#post458222https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458222,from=rss#post458222quote:NorCalAtlFan wrote: Shocking in its simplicity. I felt a little self-concious posting it, becasue it's so self-evident, but, for years, the Tigers, when under previous management, were willing to trade middling players with San Diego and Houston and sometimes more than once. And they drafted like Matt Millen. nondisclosed_email@example.com (byco42)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 11:27:29 +0000 Re: Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458218,from=rss#post458218https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458218,from=rss#post458218Shocking in its simplicity.nondisclosed_email@example.com (NorCalAtlFan)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 11:08:54 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458216,from=rss#post458216https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458216,from=rss#post458216When you draft well, you can leverage those choices to get estableshed stars, or develop the draftees. That's the key. nondisclosed_email@example.com (byco42)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 11:05:54 +0000 Re: Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458197,from=rss#post458197https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458197,from=rss#post458197quote:irishbum wrote: that tigers lineup is scary Yup, that's the sort of lineup one can build when *patiently* rebuilding a team, and avoiding crap (and stupid contracts). The Tigers started building a team when they signed guys like pudge and mags several years ago. And they've certainly continued it these last two off-seasons. Baseball free agency isn't a Safeway (yes, joke was intentional) where you can just pick up anybody you want, when you want it. Sometimes quality players at the position you need aren't available, sometimes they want to play closer to home, sometimes the team has a pile of bad contracts that severely limit what can be done that year (or the next). The Tigers did a great job building a team over several years (except for the occasional lapse of trading for a Neifi Perez) and laid out the money when needed (esp. these last two years) .nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 10:42:18 +0000 Re: Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458150,from=rss#post458150https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458150,from=rss#post458150that tigers lineup is scarynondisclosed_email@example.com (irishbum)Fri, 14 Mar 2008 08:35:51 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458027,from=rss#post458027https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p458027,from=rss#post458027I don't know ... right now Sheffield is #3 and Cabrera is #5 and that's how I'd leave it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (byco42)Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:49:21 +0000 Bycohttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457962,from=rss#post457962https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457962,from=rss#post457962How soon before the flip flop Cabrera and Sheffield?
