Sabean gets a lot of flack from everyone here, but I simply refuse to believe that he's stupid enough to handicap this team for 3 years because they lack a 3rd baseman for one season.
This is going to be one helluva frustrating season. UGH........
We (myself included) have all been talking about what a rough season this will be, but it's already been 3 rough seasons in a row. It's gut wrenching. I know every franchise goes through stretches like this. I just never imagined in my wildest dreams that we'd ever be as bad, or worse, than the Devil Rays, Royals, Nats, etc.

Hell, Roberts+Kline for Inge straight up. I'd do that. It frees up a spot for an OFer (Davis + Lewis = one OF ) and "blocks" Frandsen for 3 months (except he'll be playing whenever Durham is injured, so he'd be "blocked" for 6-8 weeks. Plus, the "backup catcher" could be Inge, and that frees up another spot. I don't really want Inge, but if the Tigers take Roberts + Kline, I could live with it.

Brandon Inge is an incredibly versatile and valuable player on a team like the Tigers -- a team on that will challenge for the AL pennant. He can provide instant and reliable support at virtually any position on the field. He's played center, first, catcher and third and even some shortstop. He is a patient hitter, but had a bad season at the plate in 2007 at precisely the wrong time.
He would be far less valuable on a team like the Giants as an everyday player, and he's the kind of player that is a placeholder until someone better comes along.
Defensively, he's very solid and has a cannon for an arm. Offensively, he has some power and hits lefties far better than righties -- the key is getting even or ahead on count with him which is easy for pitchers with command, combined with his patience, which was one reason why he hit so poorly last season: 400 + of hits ABs reached either 0-2, 1-2 or 2-2 and he hit well under.200 in all those situations.
Bottom line: Inge is a bad play for the Giants.

You have just described Pedro Feliz.

Re: Brandon Inge??? WTF?
What if we could trade...
Roberts and Kline for Inge
Winn for low/mid level prospect to Mets (Alou hurt)
This would get rid of THREE bad contracts while taking one back in return. Inge could be "serviceable". Durham/Aurilia will be off the books after the season and we have some money to spend on a 1B/OF bat.

Re: Brandon Inge??? WTF?
Tigers do not need Roberts ... and Kline? No.
I'd rather put Inge in middle relief.
