2006 there is of course Lincecum, then there is Clayton Tanner and Benjamin Snyder both of whom pitched very well last year.

I am worried, but I am also worried about facing every other pitcher in Baseball since our 2008 offense wont be able to hit any of them.

this team will be worse than the '96 team that lost 94 games and should rival the 100 loss '85 team.... thank god I was only four back then and barely remember it

I am about in your age bracket Irish. It's too bad we aren't going to be young enough to remember this team. 1996 was the worst I have seen so far.... this will be quite a bit worse than that I am afraid

Just asked a simple question Marco. But I guess you can't back up your statement. Per usual.

TM beat me to it with mentioning Lincecum, Tanner and Snyder. But there's also Kevin Pucetas and Adam Cowart.

Of the bunch, only Lincecum wasn't pitching in A ball last year. Kershaw ended the year throwing 24 innings in AA. But the Giants have a nice crop of pitchers from the 2006 draft - so far. We'll see what happens with them after a full season at AA or above, against better hitting.

I haven't seen Kershaw pitch, but he walks way too many guys. I wonder how much of his impressive strikeout numbers are due to young guys swinging at stuff out of the zone, and how much that number will drop when he faces more disciplined hitters. I guess we'll see this year.

I'm sure at some point this season Ned will trade Kershaw for some decline-phase 33+ years old savvy veteran.

Soooo, Lincecum and crickets? Every team has a Tanner, Snyder, Pucetas and Cowart. Not a very convincing argument.

Have you seen kershaw pitch? What is it about him that you like so much? I already said that *I* haven't seen him pitch, I'd like to hear from people who have. All I can do is look at his stats, and see that he strikes out a LOT of guys, and walks way too many. In A ball.

There's not really much to get excited about any player based on 'A' ball performance. Let's see how they do after a full year above A ball. But based on A ball performance, the Giants have a lot of interesting arms. For example, Cowart doesn't strike out a lot of guys, but the ball goes *exactly* where he wants to throw it. Look at that miniscule walk rate.

So we'll see what we'll see in the coming year. I can think of a certain LHP with a damn good curve who got the snot knocked out of him a LOT in the majors last year ...

Really, every team has a guy who led professional (American) baseball in ERA for a season, and a second who would have if short-season qualified?

Also, did they pick up all those guys, and a Lincecum, in one draft?

I think it's safe to say that every team has 3-4 pitchers that have done exceedingly well in the very low minors, yes. And most even have some offensive talent to compliment thememoticon
