Teams get desperate for catching really quick. but if sabean traded molina then they wouldnt have a clean up hitter! Both players have enough flexibility to be a somewhat useful bench player. The problem in the roster is with Durham and Winn. I still think that Winn has some value and would be a good fit with the PAAAdres or Mets. Not sure what he would bring back in terms of talent but I have to believe that if the Giants were to pay a chunk of his salary the Giants could get a decent prospect or two back. Same goes for Durham. I just don't know what team out there could use a veteran second baseman? If Sabean could trade these two guys that would free up the outfield situation and give the team a little more flexibility to get the bat that they need. That's when you trade some pitching for a bat. If you do so know, you don't have room on the 25 man roster. Every dark cloud might have a silver lining ... Strangely, losing 100 games in 1985 got the Giants the third draft pick in 1986 (behind the pirates and the indians).nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Tue, 11 Mar 2008 13:02:33 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457551,from=rss#post457551https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457551,from=rss#post457551But before the 1985 season, Will Clark wasn't there either. He was drafted in 1985 and was playing on the big team for almost all of 1986. So sometimes things can get better. And if Aurilia starts the year off hot, he's tradable to a team that needs an infielder (the whole infield wouldn't have to get injured, just one guy who would be out 6 or more weeks). Aurilia isn't paid that much by 2008 standards (salaries really went up after 2006, especially for mediocre players who *used* to be worth around $1M). So if he starts off hot, he's tradable. If he has a great year up through July, he's tradable to a contender. As is Durham. nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Tue, 11 Mar 2008 12:53:41 +0000 Re: …https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457546,from=rss#post457546https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457546,from=rss#post457546quote:Egan2581 wrote: Best case scenario, how many of these guys will no longer be Giants come Opening Day? Well, to successfully make a trade, Brian Sabean has to first convince another GM that the player in question actually has value to a major league club. This will be difficult, but not impossible, if Sabean is discussing Randy Winn. If Ray Durham gets off to a hot start, a trade is possible with him. But past those two, the other guys on the list have almost no trade value. The Giants would have to pay all of Kline's salary to get rid of him and even then, they won't get a player in return who can help. Aurilia's only chance of getting traded is if some team becomes decimated with injury on the infield. Rajai Davis is a cheaper version of Dave Roberts and no one wants Roberts. Finally, there's Snatchwig. He has value to the HFs here because of his history and the way he was acquired. But until he proves that he can stay healthy and pitch well in the bigs, he is a guy that GMs are not going to take a chance on. The fact of the matter is that the team as it is currently constructed is quite possibly worse than the 1985 team. The sad part is that the high minors look nothing like they did in 1985 and there is no Will Clark ready to jump from Single-A to the bigs. Sabean can shop the players all he wants, but last I checked, you cannot buy fine china with Monopoly money. And you can't go on a date with a look-alike and tell your friends that you went out with the actual celebrity.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cameron Frye)Tue, 11 Mar 2008 12:41:06 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457542,from=rss#post457542https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457542,from=rss#post457542hofully Roberts and Winn won't be but i wouldn't count on it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Xellos007)Tue, 11 Mar 2008 11:28:00 +0000 Re: …https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457541,from=rss#post457541https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p457541,from=rss#post457541quote:22TheThrill wrote: The rumor was that twelve players were being actively shopped. They have a lot of pieces that just don't fit the roster. If they could get some decent prospects for guys like Threets, Merkin, Davis etc, then great. As far as I'm concerned, there are only a few pitchers that are untouchable otherwise I don't care who they trade as long as the deal is moving the organization forward.
