I don't think anyone sane would prefer Rowand over Hunter even before spring training

OTOH, many sane people would prefer Rowand's contract over Hunter's.

It wasn't so much that anyone prefered Rowand over Hunter. That comparison wasn't really ever mentioned because not many of us foresaw Rowand being possibly signed.

It was more along the lines that many people didn't think it would be worth the dough to sign Hunter, and me and T definitely did think it was worth it.

Really, who I was railing against was Sabean for not getting Hunter and then signing Rowand for all those years INSTEAD.

I realize that it's only spring training, but I still say that Hunter is a stud compared to Rowand, and my guess is that Hunter's 2008/2009/2010 numbers will prove out that he would have been a far better signing than Rowand .

I'd love to be wrong for obvious reasons, but I doubt I will be unless Torii sustains a serious injury or some other unforeseeable disaster befalls him.

Hunter certainly has consistency on his side, but Rowand's two best seasons were better than Hunter's. Also, Aaron is two years younger and much cheaper.

Of course, IMO, the correct answer was either C) Andruw Jones, or D) none of the above.

You had me at "Hunter certainly has consistency on his side..."

after that, not so much, though option "D" would have been my second choice.

Let me clarify. Hunter has been more consistent than Rowand, but Hunter's still been terribly inconsistent. In both cases (Hunter and Rowand) the teams are paying out salaries that the respective players have only really earned in two of the past five seasons. At least in Rowand's case he'd have been a bargain at his current salary in those two seasons, while Hunter would have been merely appropriately compensated.

Your contribution did not go unnoticed, Phil......I've heard non-partisan reports that some are expecting BW to finish between 30-35 saves...no idea how they come to those numbers, as estimates, but whatever

30-35 sounds high for a fantasy estimate. Most of those guys should be hedging their bets on the chance that he wouldn't hold the job all season.
