Re: thehed's national league preview

if sheets can stay healthy, i think the brewers could make some noise in the playoffs. they have the type of club, if they are hot could win the nl, but again they would have to be on fire like the rox were last year and the cards the year before.

Contract year for Sheets. Just sayin'
As for the Mets. Again, they're good, but they probably have more question marks than any team in the league. And I think you overrate that offense. It's good, but it's top heavy. The Phillies offense is much better. And I'd take Atlanta's 3-6, hell, 1-9 over theirs.

of course you will. lmfao

glavine is washed up. if he doesn't get the strike called 1 foot outside he gets hammered, which happened last year, and will be worse this year. he should have hung up the spikes after last year. smoltz isn't getting any younger, and hudson has yet to prove he can be a frontline starter for a whole eyar outside oakland. if smoltz pitches well, hudson re gains form, and glavine manages to go 10-10 the bravos might have a shot to finish 2nd in the east, but i doubt it.

I didn't mention Atlanta's pitchingemoticon
Hudson did seem to do pretty well last year though. Glavine is horrible. Smoltz is the ultimate warrior. And the rest? Who f*cking knows? I ain't that optimistic.(barring a trade).
All I'm saying is you tout the Mets offense like it's clearly the best. And it's not. It's 3rd best in their own division and their pitching isn't that far ahead, if at all. Right now, it's Philly's division.

How is Phillie going to replace Rowand? I question his ability to repeat it, but the dude was a beast last season, arguably the Phillie's most valuable position player. They should still have a good offense (how could they not?) but anyone judging straight off of their 2007 season might be overestimating them.

San Diego and St. Louis will not finish that high, I'm more sure about the latter. The Cardinals staff doesn't really impress me and outside of Pujols, that isn't a very good lineup. I like Duncan's approach at the plate and his power but he has a tendency to put up crazy splits. I've always liked Glaus as a hitter but he is getting to stage where he's in the wrong league. He needs to be a DH. Arizona and LA have too much talent to not finish 1/2. LA will make the playoffs if Torre plays the talent instead of the price tag(Pierre and Garciaparra more so than Jones, I think Jones bounces back a bit). You didn't do your research on Cincinnati, that is a good lineup. I think Phillips is overrated but Griffey, Dunn, Votto, and Bruce is one of the best middle of the orders in the NL. Disagree on Harang, that is a very difficult park to pitch in and he does it as well as anyone could. Very underrated. Despite the low BA, good to see you like Rickie Weeks. He gets on base and is a superb athlete. I think he becomes a top tier 2B offensively.

this will be votto's first fill season. totally unproven. who is bruce? hard to have a rookie and a phantom rounding out, "one of the best middle orders in the nl." plus greiffey is made of glass and aging, and dunn strikes out more than a poor boy at a debutante ball.

the cards lineup isn't very good with pujols (monster superior to any hitter in the nl), glaus (hurt last year, was still on pace for a 30 hr season, before that 37, 38), duncan (has good upside, isn't great, but certainly as good as a rookie with 84 career ab's), and ankiel (put up big numbers last year, and no his hgh use was in 2004, so not last year. he likely won't hit 40 hr, hitting 30 is very reasonable)? i think both teams have question marks, my opinion is that the cards are better.

How so? Rowand played 161 games of good defense in center while hitting .309/.374/.515. Utley and Howard, though more valuable hitters, suffered from missed games and brutal defense respectively (nevermind the difference in positional value). Rollins plays a more valuable position, but wasn't quite the hitter (PS: I'm finding it hard not to predict a falloff from Rollins). So are you predicting that Feliz will make up for the loss of Rowand? It seems safe to assume a droppoff from the Phillies' offense.
