I am surprised that Sabean didn't recruit Dunston to fill in at SS. He fits Sabes age profile I am sure. I heard he was in camp.

Actually I think that Dunston was seen in Florida at the Reds camp, holding an umbrella over Dusty Baker's head.

Dusty was overheard mumbling something about those damn kids and trying to find a way to block Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Norris Hoppper from getting PT.

Somewhere off in retirement, Darren Lewis' cell phone kept ringing.

I agree that it isn't good to "rush" any prospect and that it could hurt the development of that player. In this case though we are talking about Bo_ock, a player that nobody thinks will ever, EVER, hit major league pitching. At best he has been projected as a reserve middle infielder. I'd be much more concerned if the Giants were talking about bringing up Burris or Culberson but to my knowledge they are not.

So why not give Bo_ock a chance and if he surprises everyone then great. If not, no big deal because the Giants already have Burris or Culberson earmarked to be the future SS for the Giants.

Just sayin'

Hot Stove said Burris was also competing for the position, but it seems Bocock is the favorite.

I vote for the .150 hitting BoCOCK.... why? cause he'd fit in with the rest of the .150 hitters in this lineup. Might as well join the party

Still none of this REALLY matters though, does it? Omar will be back after a few weeks and the kid (whichever it is) will go back down. So stop complaining and let the kid play.

Or should we just stick 87 year old Rich Aurilia at SS and cross our fingers that he doesn't throw out a hip, whilst never learning a facking thing about our potential future players? emoticon

Marvin Benard might be available. He was a favorite of Dusty's.

If it's only between Bocock and Burris, it should be Bocock. For no other reason than with his limited ceiling, it's less of an issue to burn an option on him. Burriss will do better with less pressure to be ready by 2011 or else risk losing him. I simply don't see the upside in Bocock, who is having only his second good month of offense in his entire career, anywhere.

To answer [sign in to see URL] are right, do not blindly say 'don't promote guys from AA or High-A straight to the majors.' However, I would generally say, as a rule, don't do it with guys who struggled mightily at those levels unless it's an emergency.

Bocock will suck balls while Omar is out. But, at least he has experience playing in AT&T [sign in to see URL] Petco Park, for that matter.

Yeah, what a great experience that will be. He can drown his sorrows at Lefty O'Doul's and Dick's Last Resort while he tries to forget that he is 100 points under the Mendoza line.

But seriously, Bocock is not ready. Why start his option clock early when you don't have to. I'm sure Ivan Ochoa would be responsible for just as many wins as any other SS we put in there.

Vizquel's injury is one of the reasons why teams bother with guys like Ochoa: you don't have to burn an option on a prospect in low A, and you keep the 40-man roster clear of guys who can neither contribute nor be released.

Experience, lol. Such subtle sarcasm, I'm impressed.
