Franny no longer the fill-in shortstop

Didn't Robby Thompson and Will Clark both make the jump from AA to the majors?

Just askin'

I'm all for Boc_ock to give it a shot. I mean, why the fack not?? I don't want to see Richie's prehistoric ass out there! We're power-deficient, but SS is a defense-first position. And frankly, it's not like OMAH was doing much with the bat last season either. Let teh kid play. Considering we're giving up NINE RUNS A GAME this ST, I think need all the D we can get.

I am for letting kids play, but he will hit a .150 at the big league level and that can hurt the mental game of a kid.

I have no problem during a rebuilding stage advancing players that are even moderately ready. Bocock hit .220 in A ball with a .320 slugging percentage. If you think Omar was bad on offense last year -- Bocock will not even be able to compete.

To promote Bocock would be a mistake IMO. He has not even proven himself in A ball.

When he hits .150, you can come back and say "I told ya so" emoticon

Regardless, who would you play at SS, giantc?

Are you insinuating that it is bad form for the Giants to promote people straight from A or AA or in general? Because if you are being general, that's an idiotic statement. There have been many, many, many players that have been successful making the jump from AA to the majors. A to the majors, there are still a handful.

When you have stars, you can jump them levels. The Giants don't have stars in the minors (at least none that played in AA or higher last year).

So I am not insinuating, I am flat out saying this : the Giants should not be promoting anybody from A or AA to play on the major league team - nobody in the Giants farm system is good enough. Now, when the Giants have the next Miguel Cabrera playing in AA ... (As an exampe, note that Matt Williams didn't do so well the first two years or so in the majors : he was promoted too early.)

Anyhow, the Giants don't have any position players in the minors that are "stars" - so those that were in A or AA should stay in the minors.

Guys stop talking about Bocawk as if he is going to play 160 games and get 600 plate appearances.

If the kid makes the big club, it will be for approximately one week while Omar finishes up his recovery from the surgery that he had last week.

Once Omar comes off the DL, the kid will be shipped back down to Double-A and will finish his season with the Defenders or possibly the Fres-neck Grizzlies if he does well in Connecticut.

Some of you are acting as if Brian Bocawk is going to single-handedly destroy the major league club by sticking in SF on opening day.

I have some bad news for you: Brian Sabean has already destroyed this team. I don't care if Alex Facking Rodriguez suddenly finds himself on the Giants' opening day roster. This team is not going to win.

Just deal with the reality that this team sucks donkey balls and move on with your life. Make peace with Sabean's inability to do his job. Come to grips with the fact that nothing Big Head Botchy can do will change the team's eventual place at the bottom of the standings.

This season is already over. Enjoy it.

I agree that it isn't good to "rush" any prospect and that it could hurt the development of that player. In this case though we are talking about Bo_ock, a player that nobody thinks will ever, EVER, hit major league pitching. At best he has been projected as a reserve middle infielder. I'd be much more concerned if the Giants were talking about bringing up Burris or Culberson but to my knowledge they are not.

So why not give Bo_ock a chance and if he surprises everyone then great. If not, no big deal because the Giants already have Burris or Culberson earmarked to be the future SS for the Giants.

Just sayin'

I am surprised that Sabean didn't recruit Dunston to fill in at SS. He fits Sabes age profile I am sure. I heard he was in camp.

Yeah - he'll never be able to hit. That's a great reason to have him take the last spot on the 40-man roster, 2 years before he would have to be added to protect him from the rule 5 draft.

It's also nice to see that people can read the future and decide after ~600 pro ABs that a guy will never make it. That sure saves everybody a lot of time and wear and tear.

{Now removing tongue from cheek.}
