No doubt. But if the "injury" is something that causes him to miss 5-10 games, Richie and (insert utility infielder's name here) can cover.
Omar may be old, but outside of his 2003 season, Vizquel has not played in fewer than 140 games since 1995 (and even then it was 136). He's remarkably durable considering. There's no need to trade for a SS if the Giants think that either Bocawk or Burriss could develop into a solid (if unspectacular) player.
Zobrist will never be a superstar and I don't want to see Uribe as a Giant for any reason, so unless he could be had for a minor prospect or someone like Randy Messenger, I don't see the value in acquiring him.
it doesnt matter what omar did at 30-37, 38 or 39. hes 40 now and cant be depended on.

Some people need to stop smokin' that weed.
Please, people : stop suggesting that the Giants promote guys who spent last year in single or double A. Please.
--- Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Franny no longer the fill-in shortstop
That's not a suggestion, it's a poster coming to terms with the absurd fact that the Giants are actually considering it.

Re: Franny no longer the fill-in shortstop
Bocock could not hit the pitching in San Jose -- I am sure he will do just fine in the big leagues.
That is not a solution even for the short term. Bocock needs more time in the minors. I don't have a problem with players skipping AAA to go to the majors if they are very good (actually happens a lot) or skipping AA to go to AAA -- Giants should do that more with good hitting prospects (if they ever have one), so they don't have to play in miserable Connecticut and lose confidence -- at least the Foxwoods casino is close by.
Just let Aurilia play SS for a few weeks or let Fransden play there. The Giants give up on moving players to different position so fast -- so he struggled on the crappy ST infields in his first week. That does not mean a .220 hitter in A ball should be recklessly promoted.

I wish that I would have suggested Bo_ock be the starting SS because I was high. The fact is I haven't touched the beautiful green bud in over 20 years! I guess you could say I'm just seeing things for what they are, most notably this team just doesn't have much talent or depth on it.
Just sayin'

Are you insinuating that it is bad form for the Giants to promote people straight from A or AA or in general? Because if you are being general, that's an idiotic statement. There have been many, many, many players that have been successful making the jump from AA to the majors. A to the majors, there are still a handful.
