CC a Giant in 2009?

This guy from SI seems to think its a possibility:

Sabathia's probable suitors

Assuming the Indians can't bridge the gap of millions to keep him beyond this season, here are the three most likely landing spots:

1. Yankees. Long seen as the most logical destination for Sabathia, the big reason they balked at Santana was their reluctance to part with top pitching prospects Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. Since it'll only cost them money (and draft choices), and Mike Mussina, Carl Pavano, Jason Giambi and Andy Pettitte could be coming off the books, they remain the favorite. A perfect replacement in case this is Pettitte's last year, a real possibility.

2. Dodgers. They can afford Sabathia, and they have a some age and injury questions in their rotation.

3. Giants. Pitching isn't their problem. And they already sunk $126 million into a left-hander (Zito). But they have the wherewithal and desire to win, and perhaps Sabathia has a hankering to go home.

I just don't see how this could happen with Zito's terrible contract on the books.

Just sayin'

I agree, we'd have to move Zito's contract before then, which is a zero chance.

200+ mil tied up in pitching??? No thanks.

Yeah, but maybe signing someone like CC would then give Sabean the idea of trading Cain or Lincecum? Not that I'm advocating this but maybe that could be the thinking.

Move Zito, sign CC

I'd actually like that other pitcher in Cleveland... Fausto Carmona... I think I'd rather have him here

I'd like to see CC here instead of Zito. Fausto Carmona is pretty good also and i'd like to see him here too, but he isnt going anywhere.

LOL anyone would take CC over Zito at this stage in their careers. One is currently a certified ACE, the other is a #3 on most teams... at best.

Personally, I'd like to see Omar go and us get ARod. =D

But really, assuming he continues to pitch like he is (which is never guaranteed), I'd fully expect the Yankees/Mets/Sox/UsualSuspects to sign him.

Also, unfortunately we are not going to trade Zito. Ever. The ONLY way that could possibly happen is if the price of starting pitching gets so retarded that his contract looks cheap.

Re: CC a Giant in 2009?

I say who cares how much money goes into the rotation?

It's pretty obvious that the Giants hitting problems aren't going to be solved in Free Agency. The FA classes are stinkers. So the only way to improve the offense in the next year is to deal pitching for it.

I say fack it. Sign CC and trade Cain for a bat(s). It's still a net improvement on the pitching side as well as the hitting. It doesn't matter if you have two pitchers making $40M if your best hitter is a club-controlled stud.

The Giants should NOT be signing FA pitching. Please. Take the head out.

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)
