Messenger comes in to lose the game (hopefully.)

Why hopefully? So we get rid of his useless ass.

*ding ding ding*

YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!

It's just as well. We don't deserve to win this game. I mean walking the first 7 of 8 batters? LOL

Now, let's not set the roster based on 5 games of ST. (Kline should be kicked to the curb because of his 2007 performance. =D )

What about his Contract, are we forgetting reality here. emoticon

I saw the "winky", but there's a huge difference between releasing what Roberts is owed ($13M) and $[sign in to see URL] (what Kline is owed). Heck, (for all those people saying Roberts and Durham should be DFA's) there's an even bigger difference between $[sign in to see URL] and $20M.

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

The good teams don't play players based on salary, they play the best players. Of course the good teams have a good GM who doesn't pay for declining talent and can trade away bad contracts for prospects without having to rely on Dave Littlefield to make a last minute push for a contract no one else wanted.

I agree with Nine Buck -- there is no way Messenger should take up a roster spot. He is a [sign in to see URL] ERA+ pitcher who had two good months with the Marlins.

His WHIP with the Giants was abysmal as he allowed 70 base runners in 40 innings. I really hope that Merkin continues to pitch well -- it would be a nice story to have him come back.

Ah, I see we are talking about different things. YOU are apparently talking about "good teams". *I* am talking about the 2008 Giants.

"Good" teams don't allow themselves to end up with 3 or 4 or 5 dead-weight, and/or horribly overpriced contracts. Unfortunately, that is your 2008 Giants. They *will not* toss $25M on the trash heap. They. Just. Won't.

So we are stuck with Roberts and Winn and Durham and Aurilia (and Zito). And we are stuck with them *starting* as long as they play well. (OK, with Zito, we are stuck with him playing, no matter WHAT his performance.)

That's the only way to trade them - make somebody see a good performing player - "somebody" who needs a short-term CF/2B/Utility guy.
