VELEZ!!!

Because it's just spring training, AND it's only 3 or 4 games in - still 3 weeks left to make a decision.

Lewis had a better year than Nate at the ML level last year as well.

Why Schierholtz over Lewis?

I see Lewis as a 4th OF.

Besides, Nate is over 3 years younger and has more upside.

....and plays an above-average RF

If you just look at the stats, you might think so. But Nate pretty evenly put up the same stats all year. Lewis put up pretty crappy stats, except for the first couple of weeks (especially, one monster game). After that, he couldn't hit his way out of a paper sack. He did manage to walk, though.

If you actually watched the two play defense, absolutely not. Lewis has been a defensive disaster whenever he plays.

But I still like that sweet swing Fred has. Especially whenever it's a Holiday, or a special event day.

I sure wish he had Davis D and Davis arm and Davis base stealing instincts.

The Giants need to clear up the outfield situation by trading Winn to the PAAAdres for some prospects. Then have Davis and Roberts platoon in left field, Rowand in center, and then have Lewis and Nate battle it out all year for right field. That way, guys know what their roles are and the Giants get a strong look at all the "young" guys without having to send anybody down or risk loosing them on waivers.

Winn is the roadblock.

Just sayin'

Re: VELEZ!!!

so your proposal involves getting rid of Winn's offense, and in effect trading his D for Freddie's D and arm and O, keeping Roberts, and ending up with a platoon of outfielders?

No thanks.

I'd MUCH rather see Roberts go away altogether and have Winn in left with his semi weak/inaccurate arm and Davis and Nate be the primary RF and back up OF's in general)
(With Winn also being able to play whatever OF spot makes the most sense that day when considering who the opposing pitcher/batter matchup is.)

Winn isn't great, but he is a good player overall and he has earned his keep.
