If you look at Smith non objectively, you realize that in 2005 he had very little talent Lloyd at WR and Battle a recent QB conversion, Barlow at RB and very poor Offensive Line. In 2006 he improved the most of any QB in NFL History from one year to the next with an improved Line and a running game. 2007 when the 49ers were put in a bad situation Offensive Coordinator wise who didn't understand that the short route got you first downs, they didn't realize this until December. Still the 49ers averaged more points per game in Alex Smiths first 3 games (not counting the games he was injured in) then any 3 games played by any other 49er QB. If you think that Smith isn't going to be the starter next season your delusional.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TheMalcontent)Thu, 28 Feb 2008 23:20:50 +0000 Re: …https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455391,from=rss#post455391https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455391,from=rss#post455391quote:FATALFART wrote: quote:losgigantes wrote: I agree with you... he has potential. Here's a simple test. Does he have a strong arm? Does he have an accurate arm? Does he lead his team well? Does he have good pocket presence? Does he make good decisions? Does he avoid fumbling the ball? Does he make those around him better? Does he throw a "catchable" ball? Does he have "that certain something"? Does he read coverages well? Does he excel in the 4th quarter? Does he win games? Do you trust him with the game on the line? I think you'll find the answer to every question is no. The fact is, Alex smith only possesses three admirable qualities: He is relatively athletic, he is relatively booksmart, and he is relatively young. That's it. He has potential. Potential doesn't win games. Potential doesn't warrant extending contracts because he's "only" been in the league for 3 years. I don't mean to trash the guy, but why would the yorks reup him NOW? Did they think there'd be a bidding war for his services after this season?? Did they not want to hurt his feelings?? so i guess antonio bryant luckily averaged 20 yards a catch with a guy with weak non accurate arm. i hear they might actually bring him back which would be a step in the right direction. its hard to compare grossman considering he was surrounded by a super bowl talent team, not crap team alex has been so far. what happened to grossman this year? well they lost talent, thats what happened nondisclosed_email@example.com (FATALFART)Thu, 28 Feb 2008 20:50:39 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455362,from=rss#post455362https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455362,from=rss#post455362...like the year he was in the bottom 3rd in the league in every catagory? Why not wait until the end of the season? I mean, come on... there's a good chance he won't even BE the starter this coming season. The two most important qualities of a QB in the Mike Martz offense is Accuracy and Getting Rid of the Ball Quickly, both of which Smith is TERRIBLE at. And, coincidentally, Shaun Hill is 50x better at both (from what we've seen) Just no facking point to pulling the trigger now. Stats over 3 seasons: 19 TD 31 INT 4679 YDS Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible And after whining to the media about Nolan "undermining" him, after being hands down the worst QB the 49ers have EVER HAD... they go ahead and guarantee another 2 years for him?? WHY? So he won't feel threatened or slighted?? HE SHOULD. He's facking PATHETIC, and a career backup came off the bench and did more in 3 games than Smith has done in 3 YEARS. But yeah, let's guarantee another 2 years. So he won't feel bad. nondisclosed_email@example.com (losgigantes)Thu, 28 Feb 2008 18:19:58 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455345,from=rss#post455345https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455345,from=rss#post455345Good move. nondisclosed_email@example.com (TheMalcontent)Thu, 28 Feb 2008 17:47:22 +0000 Re: 49ers Pick up Alex Smiths Clause Through 2010https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455343,from=rss#post455343https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p455343,from=rss#post455343quote:Giants2WorldSeries wrote: The 49ers today picked up a clause in Alex Smith's contract that will keep him a 49er through the 2010 season.
